Hey all! Only three months until the application process begins for the Summer 2010! I just thought we could start a thread for those who are hoping to be there next stummer. It may be too early, but I'm a planning kind of girl. Besides, it's never too early for Disney, right? I'm Canadian, hoping to go for Merchandise. Looking forward to meeting the rest of you! -merfsko PS- On the Summer ICP Page at yummyjobs, it says "Program Not Available" at the bottom. Someone please tell me that this is regarding 2009 applications (which is what the page is currently set to) and not hte program overall.
Hey I can't wait to get over in sunny Florida! I've been thinking about it for waaaay too long! I got to wait unitil September for the UK applications. I'm hoping to be a lifeguard at one of the waterparks, hopefully Typhoon Lagoon. But as long as I'm over there, I'd pretty much be happy with what ever role I was given...to some extent though. I love being there so much I have been looking at vids on youtube already, just to get a glimpse of what its like to be working there ;D water_boy
Just checked yummy jobs, I would have thought the "program unavailable" business is just there so that no one applies for summer 09. It said it will reopen for summer 10 applications in August 09 for you Canadians, and September 09 for us Brits. Although I will be worried if it means they've ended the program through YJ.
In contacting yummyjobs not nly did I confirm that the program is NOT cancelled (yay!) but also found out that Canadian applications being July 2010! That's barely two months away! Wow. It's getting so close.
I want to apply for summer 2010 too!! I'm doing camp america this summer and my plan is to do the ICP next summer!! I'm so excited, I have always wanted to work at WDW!!
Hi I did think about doing the CCUSA but WDW seems way better! but maybe no better than being an ice cream man ;D what camp are you doing? What WDW job would you really want? merfsko-good to hear that YJ still have the program! but how come it says its unavailable?
I'm at a camp called Camp Connri, it's in CT and is run by the salvation army, I am beyond excited about it! I fly out in 28 days so everything is getting really close and really real! I really want to do WDW as wel but I also really want to travel the US and I can only really do that with Camp America so I chose that this year and WDW next! I am gonna have to do some serious money saving! I would love to be in attractions or merch, but I'm also USA lifeguard trained so if I do get the job I'll bet anything it'll be as a lifeguard, which I dont mind but whenever I've been out to WDW the lifeguards dont seem to get very much people interaction which is definately something on the top of my list! The CM's have always made WDW special for me and I want to do the same for other people! (Cliche!) haha
cool where did you get your USA lifeguard qualification? I defo need some more awards. I know where I can get the award in Newcastle, only a short walk away...but the training is so expensive to put me off doing it here. Yeah it does seem it could get a little boring at times, but I'd rather be outside getting a tan I'd really want to be at Typhoon Lagoon...and be the guy who makes all the waves! The first time I saw or heard of a CM was on one of the long shuttle buses in the car parks, he told me all about it and that was enough to make me want to do it.
sounds good to me!! I'm getting my qualification this summer, I'm a lifeguard at the camp I'm going to so they're training me up out there! I'm a qualified english one too so it shouldn't be too hard! I dont actually remember when I wanted to be a CM but I know my mum says when I went to WDW for the first time in 2001 it was all I would talk about hahah
Is it the lifesaver awards you got or some proper hardcore lifeguard certificate? because i got the lifesaver but they apparantly expire? Easy peasy for you when WDW ask if you've ever done lifeguarding before! They'll be well pleased to hear you've already got USA lifeguarding stuff. That guy in the shuttle bus was the only time I ever heard of the CM program when i was out there in 06, but its still been enough to get me all hyped up! So how many times you been then? ...I do hope there is a job when you get to push a big red button and make waves...even if it was just the once.
waterboy- We were right, the "program not available" was referring to the 2009 Porgram. disneylaura-Hello! Glad to meet another fellow applicant!
Hey! I would DEFINITELY suggest starting early! I'm going on the ICP this summer - in two days actually - and applied for it last summer! It's a long wait but tons of time to get prepped/pumped up! It also leaves so much more room for doing things in a timely way and not being stressed last minute. Also, sometimes great opportunities pop up - like I got to take my interview in Oct instead of Feb/March, which was GREAT because I found out earlier, planned earlier, and would have had to make alternate arrangements for the summer by January if I didn't know! Good luck, I wish you guys the best!
haha I'm sure there will be, I think if given the chance I'd get a bit excited about pushing a big red button too... I get to put the waves on where I work sometimes and that's amazing! hahha. I hae the NPLQ... which is the (UK) National Pool Lifeguarding Qualification so it means I can work anywhere but it does expire after 2 years but I renew it!! I've been 3 times (the last time the summer just gone) and hopefully I'm going again in 2011 with my family (obv if I get the CP job in 2010 I'll gothen too!) and I've been to paris more times than I can count! I adore it! How many times have you been? Hey merfsko nice to meet you! and thanks for your tips amanahp12 I really hope you have an amazing time, you'll be going out with my friend so if you meet a British girl called Emma doing custodial be sure to tell her I say hey!!
Where and how much was your lifeguarding course? It will cost me £200 if I go onto the course in my local pool, thats a week long as well. I've been twice, 2003 & 06. 2nd time back was amazing! we managed to go to Discovery Cove next to Seaworld which is well worth a visit if you haven't already been! merfsko-thats great news to hear! lucky you, you only have to wait another month or so, whereas us brits need to hang on to another 3! How many times you been down to WDW? Any of you guys thought of which living complexes you'd like to stay in at WDW? I'm sure you'll really enjoy yourself amnahp! You see, the planning and excitement really does pay off!did you apply through yummyjobs? if so what do they actually do for you?
amnahp12- Thanks for the tip! I will definately be applying as soon as I can. I've been to WDW seven times, and am going to DLR for the first time this summer Not sure about complex. At this moment, I can't really remember details about each one, so that might be why How about you guys?
Disney Land Resort? ??? is that in florida? If you click on the living experience page on the list of links on the left, there is some good stuff about the complexes. I would go for Chatham or Vista Way, but it all depends on what you personally want. Vista Way has a party going on practically every night, whereas in Chatham you'd more likely get a good nights sleep and the occasional chance to party!
hey everyone complete novice with the whole ICP programme lol but i'm really hoping to go in summer 2010 i'm 18 from liverpool and at the time of the programme i will have just finised 1st year uni an i'l be 19 does anyone think the fact am only 18 affect anything?? ps. water_boy i'm also looking at becoming a lifeguard.thing is i've got no lifeguard qualifications but i've swam at a national level for over 7 years. is it essential to have qualifications before you go or apply?cos i read sumwer that disney train you?
Can't help with the lifeguard thing - but it really won't matter that you've just done first year! As long as you have a good interview (whatever they are using to measure that!), then there isn't any reason why you wouldn't get the job! Maybe it would matter more for the CRP (I'm not sure), but the ICP is aimed at uni students, (it is FOR uni students actually!), so there isn't any problem with only being 18! Good luck peeps - if I enjoy the summer there and can work the logistics, I may be applying to go again next year! xxx
waterboy- No, DLR is the abbreviation for Disneyland in California Apparently I've been spending WAY too much time on the disboards. I'm not much of a party person so Chatham may be better I would also like to note that I'm starting to feel like a bit outnumbered my you lifegaurding types! Although maybe that means there will be more merchandising spots for me to snag
haha ye ther are alot of us i might not be lifeguarding if i get a place tho, got not qualifications for it :-\ anyone been on the ICP before then?
