I'm not due to enter repayment til April 07, I assume if I get the job, i'll just have to call them once I have the date?

As its under £15k we're still exempt from repayments even when out the country right?

You still have to phone them to let them know you're going to leave the country...they have to keep track of where you are and what you're doing just so they know you're not scamming them!! They didn't tell me about the form when I phoned them (let me tell you that was a mission!!!.....3 bloody numbers I had to ring!!)....they sent a demanding letter to me at home around November time wanting to know where I was...so my mum rang them and gave them what for......

All I had to do was photocopy 12 weeks worth of payslips (which obviously you can't do until you have 12 weeks worth of payslips - so don't panic everyone), sign some form and send it back with the photocopies...it's just so they know you're not using British resources to get by!!

BTW, just some advice....some people don't do it, but once you start getting payslips here, I advise to keep all of them...just in case something happens and you might need them for some reason to prove something (like to the SLC!!)

Damn student loans...I have to get in touch with them when I'm back.....I wish they'd just write it off!!

    x x x x :D

oops i didnt know you were ment to do that, oh o
yeh i think you need to be out the country for 3 years before they write it off, so if you dont tell them your back and dont work for 3 years you'll be fine, hungrey, but debt free :)

The form is pretty straight forward. Have you informed inland revenue too? You have to fill out a form for them as well so they know that you aren’t gonna be earning in Britain for a year and so they can’t tax you!

Out of interest why would you need to tell inland revenue? Most people are on Pay as you Earn, so if you not working you don't pay? Only reason I can think of to tell the Inland Revenue is so you can claim back any Tax you have already paid in the current tax year if you earned under the non-taxable limit.

Thats a very good point. I just went into my local tax office and enquired as to whether i needed to inform them and they handed me the form to fill out so i didn’t ask any questions and just got on with it! :-\

the only thing im thinkin is that it makes things easier wen u get back, as every year ive worked in greece wen i get home and start working again i need to fill in a wee form showing my work history with an emphasis on the massive gap in employment... not sure tho, coz either way u have to fill out a form i guess...

    hmmm :-\
