I know there's a bit on the main website about this, but I'm one of those people who panics over things like this so want to get it right! So... I'm a poor student and can't REALLY afford to buy anything else right now (I mean, I could probably borrow money from somewhere, but I'd rather not)... Problem is, the only black trousers I own are linen, all my skirts are more 'pretty' than smart. I have tailored black city shorts, but they're probably more 'fashionable' than smart... So basically that leaves me with this dress (with black, smart-ish boots, etc)...

So... my question... Do I really need to go shopping :p?

I think it would be fine but don't forget to wear pantihose. As long as it doesn't look like you are going out partying.
Or just ask one of your friends if they lend you something.
Most of the girls in Germany wore a suit or trousers with a blouse.

    Good luck!

Not to panic you more (cos I know you don't need it) but nearly everyone at my interview was in a suit...I didn't have much money at the time either but managed to get a really nice one from H&M for about £30-40. I would suggest doing that but if you really don't want to, then I think that dress would be ok, as long as you make it lean closer to smart than dressy....so wear a nice coat with it and put it with a smart handbag....they're VERY concerned with how you look so the more you stick to the rules, the better off you'll seem to them!!

I think buying something it is. New Look have some quite nice shirts/blouses in for not too much money (I had a look today) so I think it'll be a trip down there. Does it matter if they're not 'plain' though? Like I found a skirt in Topshop that I'd actually wear again, but it had some extra detailing on it? Also, I found two shirts, not sure if the white one is, again, too 'fashionable' or not though (it has a black ribben which ties at the back, quite cute but not sure if it's really 'business' wear!):

And then I guess I should try and dig out a cheap jacket from somewhere too, don't think a cardi will cut it somehow!

My friends are useless for trousers too- I'm a complete shortass, so the ones I tried on from one of them drag on the group even when I'm wearing heeled boots! Not the best idea considering I'm going to be walking there- don't really think dirty trousers make the best impression in the world!

And black flats (like smart ballet pumps) are OK, right? Because boots with a pencil skirt would probably end up looking a bit more 'sexy secretary' than 'business-woman'and my feet do not do heels!

Bah, can't believe they expect students to dress smartly :p! I feel like so silly worrying this much about what I'm wearing! I can't believe how much effort I'm putting in for something I'm so unlikely to end up getting the job for, too! Gah! Oh well, guess my chances are even smaller if I don't put the effort in :p:)

Thanks for all the advice so far by the way, really appreciate it :)

you could try asda - theres the big one in cardiff bay or another one out at coryton although if ur at uni and in the halls the bay one would prob be closer and tonnes of buses go there every 5/10 mins.

they do a special petite range which covers tops and stuff and u can get a nice suit from like £30 which isnt bad.

im wearing a suit to my interview but thats not really change for me as i have to wear smart/buisness to work a lot of the time so i already had it all i had to buy was shoes and a bag

Are you at the Cardiff interviews then?? And thanks for the advice :) Actually went on a bit of a spree in town the other day though, and found some cheap pieces which hopefully will do... Though I have all the receipts so a trip to the bay may be in order- that's the one near Ikea/ Argos etc, right?

But anyway, hopefully they'll be judging more on personality than on clothes :p:) Aah yes, business-like attire... Blatantly what my student loan was meant for :p
