So since been accepting to the UK CRP i am curious about many things, just wondering if anyone can help me on this front? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! :)

    1. When buying a phone out there, what is the best option (i.e network provider etc)
    2. Is it worth buying a car?
    3. If so how much are we talking roughly?
    4. Can you get a Florida licence under 21?
    5. Is P.I open to under 21s?
    6. Is there a grocery store within walking distance of the Commons
    7. If you book your own flights, does someone still meet you at the airport to take you to the Commons?
    8. What is suggested that we will definately need to take with us bearing in mind we may not get to Walmart straight away?

Sorry lots of questions, but thanks!

I can't answer everything, but I'll do my best...

    1. I had T Mobile and that worked fine. Most people just buy a prepaid phone at walmart.
    2. It's easier to get around with a car, the busses can take forever to reach it's destination. Some people buy and sheer a car.
    3. No idea :p
    4. Yes, I believe the age limit for a licence is 16
    5. I'm not sure, a lot of things have happened since I was there, but when I was there they were allowed
    6. Yes, Publix and Walgreens is close. I went there all the time.
    7. I believe they do, as long as you give them the flight info
    8. Wallmart is open 24/7 so you'll get there if you want. If not you'll get there by the next day, so just something to eat for the first night/morning. There's also no linens on the beds, so something to sleep in the first night maybe, it's up to you...

    Glad to help ;D

theres also a publix nearby, you wont be thrown straight into work you will have a free afternoon or somet so you can get to wallmart within the first 24 hours, as to the mobile, its better to buy an american mobile you'll be out for a year so its best to get an american one

Is there any reason though why someone would need to get a US one? Do UK ones work out there orrr is it cheaper or something? :-\

My friends bought t-mobile sim cards for about $10 and then it cost about $30 for 100 minutes and 25 texts. It was pretty good! We went to AT&T first and they were trying to charge us $125 for just a sim saying that's how much they cost out there! They'll work in an unlocked phone, and I think Orange phones aren't locked. My mate has just studied perf. arts in NY and she gets back in June so i'm gonna ask if I can have her sim. At least everyone already has her number!

I had issues with my phone when I got here so I wanted to share the experience to help any new people coming out.

I got a Virgin mobile pay as you go phone. I think it is the best pay as you go network but beware of a few things. Do not buy the $20 phone because it is absolutely crap and it will frustrate the hell out of you when it takes you 10 minutes to write a short text message. Get a better model... it's worth it.

I didn't think I would use the phone that much but trust me you will... and your credit will go down so fast. A bunch of us got these phones when we got here and we were topping up $20 every two or three days.

My advice is to learn how the plans work. There are great options with the virgin pay as you go system. You can buy texts for the entire month and/or calls. As soon as I figured that out I spend so much less.

I now pay $10 a month for 1000 texts which is just about enough and then I just top up as necessary with calls because I don't use it that much for calls. I make people text me so I don't spend a whole lot anymore. If you really need to talk though there are options to buy anytime minutes.

Best thing is... no contract. Any option you choose is taken out of your top up credit and you can change plans at any point. Unlike the UK it is rare to get a free phone with contracts. If you decide to get a contract don't think you will get a really snazzy phone because you will have to pay for it on top of the contract.

    That's great advice cowza!
Do you know if they have a good plan for calls across the border and such?
I'll have to use it to call home every week and stuff to check in with my gramma and my dad and stuff, but I'll mostly use it ofr texting as well probably....Does it charge you more if you are texting people out of the country?
As well, I hear Sprint as a really good plan...Any thoughts?

The best way to call over the border is to buy a calling card they have at a kiosk at the outletmall. You can use it on a regular phone as you call a number and type in your code. It's the cheapest way!
