I'm wondering about how anyone has successfully managed their hair colour (if they get hi-lights) when working at the pavillions. My start date is coming up (Feb. 1st) and the rules just got issued to us, again. I thought I could wear a headband for when my roots are showing some... has anyone dealt with this and how do they get around it. My mum suggested I buy a wig... lol...... I think I few months in the sun and the roots will be less of a problem for the blonde hair, but it has me worried right now.
you can have highlights so long as they are natural looking. There are also plenty of hair dressers in the malls and even at walmart ad back stage if you want to risk getting them redone I think you are allowed a hair band so long as its less than an inch wide and in a neutral colour but i think that varies by pavillion and manager - i would def check before wearing it that its okay with ya managers/costuming
when I arrived I had blonde and (fading) red highlights and was ordered to go get my hair dyed so it can be a bit hit and miss... if your hair is all one colour or the colours blend seamlessly you should be okay but your colouring MUST be one that's found in nature.
When you first arrive you get put in a line and judged as to if you need to change your appearance or not, and then they don't let you into Traditions if you haven't changed (whether it's your hair, your work clothing etc). Later in the program, at least in Canada, people had riduclously unnatural hair colours and no one said anything about them. One girl had pretty much white hair from dying it blonde constantly, and others had Ariel-esque red hair. There are some nice hair dresser around though to keep them up, or else you can, as someone else mentioned, get your hair done in cast services! Pretty much you just have to look somewhat neat and tidy, I had highlights and don't even remember worrying about them growing out...
It totally depends on your superiors. I once dyed my hair red and it came out WAY brighter than expected (Ariel) and my one leader didn't say a word, but the next day I wasn't there 5 minutes before I was told to change it. Another girl I worked with had blonde hair with highlights and was told to change it because it was "2 different colors". Your roots are not a huge deal probably, unless it's a huge difference between them and your dyed color. The Disney Look thing I got bagged on most was if I was wearing jewelry. My coordinator had this thing, "that's a beautiful necklace... take it off" lol And funny enough, even us Canadian's can't wear the leather bracelets onstage. Even though it's like promotion!
I think they are even stricter now than when i was there before. I think you can't even wear a watch anymore if you are in food and bev let alone any jewelery of any type. Rumour was even wedding rings had to be taken off for service...
The ring thing is definitely true! I lost a ring I'd worn everyday for 8 years from my Mum because I wore it to work and had to take it off. I was silly and put it in my pants pocket and somehow it fell out and was never seen again. Such an awful day! I can't even fathom losing a wedding ring! You can't have any jewellery or watches, no fake nails or nail polish, and even random managers that are walking through the restaurant/kitchen are suppose to take off their jewellery.
Do you know if that's the same for wedding rings? I wouldnt want to loose my set or risk leaving is somwhere to be stolen :-\
The only ring you're allowed is a plan band. No stones, no engravings, nothing like that. So a full wedding set is probably a no, as most engagement rings have stones in them. It all depends on the style of your wedding ring as to whether you're allowed it or not. It's a shame really, you're not even allowed to put it on a chain and wear a necklace. The only jewelery you are allowed in F&B atm (or at least, in the UK) is Disney-look/size earrings.
In merch/attractions you are allowed one ring. My wedding ring has many stones and it was fine. Also you can wear a watch, as long as it's within Disney look (brown, black, white, silver or gold only). There's probably a rule to thickness and whatnot, you will see posters for it in your back office. Another thing to mention is sunglasses. Guests have to be able to see through to your eyes and the frames have to be neutral colored too. And you can't put them on your head when you don't need them (got yelled at for that one) or hang them on your shirt. On your face or out of sight. Like I said, there are posters in your back office, as well as when you're walking through cast services. It's easy to get a hang on what you can and can't do/wear.
i thought we were allowed to wear necklaces? there goes my plan of putting my ring on a chain so i don't lose it.
look, from my experience i learnt that u have to have a perfect disney look just in the beginning of your program, because those are the days that you're gonna spend with the disney staff members, and believe me they're really strict! For example, when a friend of mine had to get his picture taken for the disney ID, he had a half a millimeter long beard. You could barely see it beacause it wasn't really showing up, but at the "picture place" they made him cut his beard! Also a girl had to dye her hair because she had some mashes. But then after like a month she got her mashes back. It also pedends a lot on who your boss is, if he/she is really strict or not
Hey all! Question about glasses...I read somewhere that they should be a neutral colour. My glasses are red. They're not wild or anything, just red metal frames. I do have brown ones but they give me migraines. How strict are they on glasses?
They made me go shave at Vista when I went to get my Commons ID! I had shaved the day before when I checked in and they still made me. They had disposable razors and cans of shaving foam there so obviously expected it! They are indeed hardcore about it when you first get there but once you are in your location you will get an idea of which rules are enforced in the real world!
I had to buy new glasses. When you get your look book, it definitely says no red ones, sorry. Also, if you're not planning on following the rules for the look the whole way through guys, why go? Rules are rules for a reason ... You don't just have to follow the policies for week one, you have to follow them for the whole time you're there. My roommate dyed her hair halfway through her program and got sent home from work because it was too extreme. Cast members I worked with were made to take their makeup off and such, because it was too intense. They follow the rules - and if your personal manager doesn't, that doesn't mean you shouldn't because should someone important come by where you work and see you, BAM, there goes your job and your manager's job too.
I believe they are, but you can't get them the darkest that transitions go. You need to be able to see your eyes.
Food and Bev is definitley the strictest on Disney look (HRC in UK is participant and they have rings on all fingers, necklaces, painted nails in multicolours...whatever), but as others have said , it depends what manager's on. One of my friends would wear her bright pink lipstick, find out who was on and if it was the Hitler types, she'd wipe it off lol. I've known people have coach cousellings for not shaving and their fingernails. I've been told off for various hair adornments. I've known many people to be sent back to costuming (a good 10 min walk from the UK) because their costume's creased or dirty. They're crazy about the environmental health people at the minute too, so deffo no jewellery (except a plain wedding ring), short nails and no fringes (bangs)...they have to be pinned back along with any wisps of hair. I wouldn't worry too much about the colour of your hair. As others have said, they're only really strict on that in your first few days (my mate dyed her hair 3 times in the first week to get it right, after that I think she only dyed it 3 times the rest of the year). As long as you don't let your roots get rediculous, you'll be fine. One girl had black hair and one day came in with it bright blonde lol. She only got worried about her roots when they got to a good couple of cms. Another girl had blonde roots with dark hair. Quite a few others have platinum hair (which I'm not actually sure how they get away with, but ho hum). Just make sure it's right when you get there and after that I wouldn't worry too much.
