HI THERE, THIS IS LAURA FROM ARGENTINA. I WILL HAVE ONE OF WDW INTERVIEWS NEXT MONDAY AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW, IF SOMEONE HERE CAN HELP ME WITH ONE QUESTION THAT I HAVE ON MY HEAD SINCE...........LAST YEAR, PROBABLY- LOL WELL, AS FAR AS I KNOW, THESE ARE THE POSITIONS THAT WE CAN APPLY: Quick-Service Food and Beverage Host/Hostess - Merchandise Host/Hostess - Attractions/Operations Host/Hostess - Quick-Service Kitchen Only - Lifeguard - Guest Relations - WHAT I WOULD LOVE TO DO, IS TO BE PART OF THE .."ARTISTIC" PART OF WDW..( I DON'T THINK IT IS CALLED LIKE THAT, BUT I LACK OF VOCABULARY FOR THIS).. I STUDY DRAMA, DANCING, AND SINGING.. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS A WAY TO APPLY FOR EXAMPLE TO BE PART OF "DISNEY'S PARADE" OR SOMETHING RELATED TO THE CREATIVE PART OF THE PARKS.. BY SURE THAT WOULD BE MORE RELATED TO ATTRACTIONS HOST HOSTESS, BUT IS THERE ANY WAY YOU CAN BE ON WDW MUSICALS, OR PARADES?... THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
Hey Laura, there is a chance to be a character performer - being mickey mouse, snowwhite, goofy ... but only if you have the size, the weight, the facial expression like that character and only if you are part of the college program... as much as I know do we Internationals have not the chance to perform as a character :'( so u have to choose from one of the position they are offering... i would recommend you guest relations or merchandise! good luck, dani
thanks for the info! im not any look-a-like character... but well, i will try to see if at least I can be part of parades..you know..they walk, meet and greet tourists.. thats cool!
Though you have already had your interview (from what you wrote), I am writing this in case anyone else like you is reading this. For those who wish to be 'performers' you should not apply for the WDWIP. IP is just that - International Program. Though there are opportunites to try out different parts of WDW, it would only be that - trying it out. The International Program is to bring young people from around the world to represent their countries, mainly at Epcot and Animal Kingdom. If you wish to be a performer, then you have to apply through other means. You have to actually audition for a role - not just a regular interview. Being a performer falls under "Entertainment" - check out http://corporate.disney.go.com/auditions/index.html or http://corporate.disney.go.com/careers/auditions_wdw.html or for more specifically WDW (as opposed to other Disney parks), visit http://corporate.disney.go.com/auditions/disneyworld/index.html
Just to add further...the International College Program, a subset of an International Program, being a program usually lasting a few months during the summer, does offer the possibility of working as a Character Performer to certain countries. There are people from the UK on the ICP this summer who have been cast as Character Performers.
Indeed, I know a couple of Canadians who are Character performers, but it is only the International College Program that allows that. It makes sense though since IPers can only work at EPCOT representing their country and they don't have any character performers there. Anyways, I'm hoping to come back again so I can be a Power Ranger!!!
Ah yes, the International College Program. My friend was in parades and everything!! The only thing to note is that with the International College Program, you cannot be a 'regular' performer. Meaning, you can just be a dancer in the parade at Magic Kingdom for a year. As an International College Program Student, you have a variety of 'duties' to fill, like having to work in your home country's pavillion for some time, and work in Guest Relations, and got to school, and of course, you do get to do some fun performing stuff as well. And correct me if I'm wrong anyone, but I don't think the International College Program is a full year? Isn't it only 6 months?
The ICP now is between four and six months. You are not now (from what SarahJane says, I presume you once were) rotating between numerous roles. No ICPs work in their half pavillion. There is a summer (roughly 3-month) ICP which you have one role, and no classes, for. There is also a longer ICP: six or twelve months (the 'Academic Exchange'). If you do this for six months, you'll have one role; if you do it for twelve, you'll have two. I know one of the roles on the summer ICP is Character Performer - you would do this for your whole program; I'm not sure whether or not one can be a Character Performer on the academic exchange.
At the last round of UK interviews, Jason from Yummy indicated there was a possibility of character performer roles being available on the J1 Academic Program. However, when I enquired further during my interview with Disney, they said there were none. I'm pretty sure it comes down to bussiness needs at the time of recruitment. There's really no other reason why this role shouldn't be offered. Afterall, we as ICPs & J1 Academicers D) are able to do any of the roles undertaken by the regular CPs. Ona x
