I know there have been posts about this but I have a few different questions for those of you out there. I'm on the ICP program right now and I want to come back as soon as possible. I know there are different programs out there and stuff (excluding the cultural Rep program...i never want to do that) if anyone has an detailed info on them let me know please. (H-2B, j-1 academic exchange) Is it possible to come back here not on an international program? I have a room mate who says she can just come back next summer on a regular work Visa. I heard that Disney doesn't support things like that but I was hoping you guys could tell me for sure? Brynna
Okay let me see if I can help... :-\ ;D The IP is one year in duration and is open to folks who are from from eligible countries. You can be any age (depends slightly on your country) and it may be possible to repeat the program (again depending on your country). The visa invloved is a Q1 and hence non-students are eligible. The ICP is a couple of months in duration (generally over the summer months) and is open to any student in between academic years. The visa involved is a J1. The ICP is currently, according to Disney policy (nothing to do with the US gov. etc), a one time only program. You cannot currently do a second ICP even if you are otherwise still eligible. The J1 Academic Program is still in it's pilot stages and as such the eligibilty requirements are continualy fluctuating. Currently, as I understand it, you must be a student studying a relevant degree at a participating university. I think this program will be changing alot in coming months so it's hard to say any more about it. H2b seasonal worker program is also new and as such it is also rather an enigma. We don't know if it wil reappear next year, or even next busy season (the holidays). One thing is for certain however, the central florida labor shortage does not apear to be ceasing. Hence, there's every possibilty that the program will resurface again in the not too distant future. As far as I can discern, there are no entrance requirements concerning the H2B visa. Hence I can't see there being a problem repeating that particular program. That is of course, unless Disney decides to make it a "once in a lifetime experience". I think that unlikely but you never know! As to your roommates plans. It is possible to go back amd work in the US if you are a student. There are many programs which sponsor visas for students (BUNAC, CIE etc). If you show up at Casting with work authorisation, Disney will more than likely hire you. BUT.... it would not be possible to live in Vista, Chatham, the Commons etc. You would need to provide your own housing, transportation etc. If you can afford to buy a car and rent an apt for a couple of months over the sumer, then I'd say go for it but it would certainly be a very different experience. If we are not talking about students, then I'm sorry to say that it would simply not be possible. You need a visa to work in the US. That visa must be sponsored and Disney will not sponsor visas outside of their existing (and thankfully now growing) international programs. I wish there were more options but at least now there are a few. 3 years ago there was only the IP. So things are moving in a positive direction. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the future.
