Ok well, exactly what i didn't want, was confirmed today! the email came through and my heart raced as i opened it .... (you know the feeling) I'd applied for an F&B position, as a bartender on their cruiseline. I thought i'd get this easy since i had been the head bartender at the Grosvenor hotel in london, and had represented the hotel in cocktail competitions going up against the likes of the Ritz, Savoy & Dorchester. But what i thought would work in my favour....ended up going totally against me! lmao, its good i'm laughing about it now, but maybe its the medication kicking in! This is part of the email sent to me today from Gary, the recruiter who worked along side the actual interview rep from Orlando. "Unfortunately Disney are not offering you a position at this time, the reason given was that Missy felt you had to much experience for the position offered. You was put down as a future applicant. I am very disappointed for you." I don't think that's the real reason i was rejected, what do you guys think. I smell something fishy here! : Is it me or is this crazy!??
yeah i agree to be honest, i dont understand how you can be experienced for a job. if anything thats a good thing! i think you should reapply!
that does sound really daft ??? i wonder why they would use that as a reason, perhaps they feel you might get bored or something. you couldn't be more perfect for this job if you tried. I'd definatly re-apply.
That sounds weird to me, disney like avin experienced people...like any other company. You should email or phone them and ask them, what the real reason was.
Thanks guys, ;D I managed to track down the email address of the Disney rep who interviewed me, and sent her an email. She'll probably think i have problems with rejection But in this situation i think i have the right to contact her. Watch this space! :-*
when u re apply maybe mention what u think u could learn from disney so they know u are looking to gain something from a new role, rather than be over qualified and bored I guess?
Unfortunately bieng rejected for jobs for being over qualified often happens to people in various companies. If they think you'll get bored and quit because the job will not be stimulating they won't hire you, its a waste of their time and effort ($$). Unfortunately in these cirucumstances its hard to prove you won't quit, and that you really do want the job. Good luck and I hope they change their minds
I think it seems really strange that a person can be rejected due to be over qualified but it does happen. Do re-apply and try to add in that you'd love to work for a world leader in the customer service sector and you feel that you still have alot to learn and that this position could help with that, show that you have a passion but that you still have a bit to go that that can help you achieve.
Does sound kind of strange. I had an interview for the cruise line and my experience was the opposite. I thought I was going to get rejected because I didn't have enough experience. I applied for 'Youth Counsellor' and am going out some point next year. Perhaps they thought you wouldn't be suited to ship life. They made a big issue out of that at mine... much more so than what kind of experience I had working with children. I guess not everyone is cut out for 70 hour+ working weeks. Altho surely they would have just put that in your rejection reason? What really doesn't make sense about being 'over experience' is that I was told by my interviewer there was a lot of potential to build a career on board the ship. Surely if they thought you had enough experience they could have offered you a better position? Maybe u shud set ur goals higher and apply for a better position? Gutted for you mate. I don't want to make any assumptions about you and how you acted at your interview but as someone said in a previous post... Disney like to know the role would be valuable to you. If you just talked about how experienced you were they probably thought they wouldn't be able to offer anything to your personal development. Ben
It doesnt sound that strange to me, my Dad has had loads of interviews and has been over qualified for most of them, but the ones he could go for are mostly in the city, so hes had to go for a job miles away because no local companies will take him.
Yeah this does seem silly maybe tho they felt that it would be too easy for you and that you would be to over qualified but still tho surely if your good enough they give u the job and obv u r
When Walt was starting the parks, someone said to him "we'll go to the amusement parks and hire experience people" and walt essentially said hell no. He wanted to train people to do it the Disney way. That's why.
OMG too experieced!!! If that was the case i wouldn't be working in disney in March!! Ive run my own CD, DVD and GAMES shop for the past four years on my own with no other employees. I did all the work from sales and accounting to returns and trade refuse. I applied for merch to work no sooner than March 08 even though they were recruiting in Feb and i got the job straight away and start 11th March Maybe they felt your experience with cocktails was a health hazard with all the flinging and throwing ??? It could be that because of your experience it'd be harder to shake off your old work habits and a noobie would do what they're told without complaint.
I think in a lot of cases, they think you would have picked up habits which you may slip into, which isn't the 'Disney way'. Whereas if you are less experienced, they can teach you from scratch in the 'Disney way'. so sorry for you though! What a shame!
