Random Walt Disney World Facts...

  1. if you trawl the internet there is some amazing Disney world facts - would love to hear about any you guys know (maybe some CM exclusives!)

    * Every year 19,000 cars are locked at Disney World with their keys in them, and 1,500 of them have their engines still running!

    * Textile Services, washes about 69 tons of laundry a day. They get about a ton of lint every day.

    * Mickey has over 175 different outfits, from a scuba suit to a tuxedo. Minnie has even more, about 200, including a cheerleader outfit and evening gowns.

    *The Matterhorn Bobsleds uses two lakes as a natural braking system

    *Rock 'n' Roller Coaster DLRP Walt Disney Studios Park Each of the five trains carries a different soundtrack: Dude Looks Like a Lady, Love in an Elevator / Roller Coaster, Walk This Way / Rock This Way, Nine Lives and Sweet Emotion.

    * 6000 different types of food are served at WDW

    * The WDW resort has more than 750 watercrafts, 12 monorails and aprox 200 busses

    * There's 12,250 parking spaces at MK parking lot, and by 10am each Christmas day they will be full. In all parks ther's 32,539 parking spaces

    * The WDW Resort is located on a 46 square mile site (30,000 acres) about twice the size of the island of Manhattan. Yet, only 7,100 acres are developed.

    * The MK occupies 107 acres, Epcot covers 300 acres, Disney Hollywood studios is 154 acres and AK 500 acres

    * There are 19 WDW Resorts with a total of more than 27,000 rooms

    * The MK can hold more than 100,000 people

    * Approximately 46 million people visit WDW anually

    * Monorails carry approximately 150,000 passengers each day. On the average, 200,000 guests ride the various forms of "mass transit" every day.

    * In busy times there's 60,000 cast members employed by the WDW Resort

    * Illuminations costs $17,000 every night
     
  4. *3 million chocolate covered Mickey Mouse ice cream bars are sold every year at WDW.
    *The 4 official WDW colours are lagoon blue, mint green, pumpkin orange, and lavender.
    *WDW has over 2000 acres of grass to mow which is about 450 000 mowing miles annually, or 18 trips around the earths equator (WDW mows their lawns 3 times a week)
    *There are enough Disney character t-shirts sold in WDW ever year to put Mickey Mouses smiling face on the chest of every person in Chicago
    *It was Walt Disney's own idea to use topary in each of his parks.
    *On February 27th 1992 , cast members planted more than 50 000 pine trees across 50 acres to form a hidden mickey for the parks 20th Anniversary.
    *Each year enough ketchup sachets are handed out that they would stretch from MK to Minneapolis, Minnesota if laid out end to end.
    *WDW is 80 times the size of Monaco.
    *The world famous turkey legs sold throughout the parks come from 40-50 pound turkeys.
    *The total volume of water in Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon is 2385 billion gallons.
    *WDW purchases over 3.8 million pens a year.
    *If you stacked all of the buttons used by the costuming planet seam team in one year, the stack would be more than 96 times the hight of Cinderella's Castle.
    *Louisa will know this one well - the names of the two crocs that you meet in the Jungle Cruise are called Ol' Smiley and Ginger (and Ginger snaps as well)
    *Space Mountain is the only attraction in MK to be loacted outside of its perimeter.
    *There is a picture of Walt Disney himself on the left wall of the daughters room in the 3rd scene of the Carousel of Progress.

    Now for some Holiday trivia...seeing as it's nearly Christmas :D

    * The "Icon" trees range in height from 45 feet to 70 feet.
    * The "Icon" trees range in weight from 28,000 pounds to 32,000 pounds.
    * Each tree has more than 5,500 lights twinkling from the branches.
    * The holiday trees located at the Magic Kingdom® Park, Epcot®, the Disney-MGM Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park are all 65 feet tall.
    * The largest base section weighs 18,000 pounds and is 26 feet wide.
    * The "Icon" trees are transported to their locations by flatbed trucks and lifted into place with a 70-ton crane.
    * There are more than 1,500 decorated trees located throughout the Walt Disney World® Resort.
    * Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa features a 40-foot holiday tree in the lobby. The tree glows with 45,000 LED lights.
    * The holiday tree located in front of Disney's Contemporary Resort is 70 feet tall and is decorated with approximately 77,000 clear mini-lights
    * The holiday tree located in the lobby of Disney's Wilderness Lodge is 50 feet tall with a five-foot base.
    * Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is decorated with a lobby tree, a 50-foot traditional style Christmas tree, which has an authentic African décor. The tree is decorated with handmade African baskets, reproductions of traditional African masks and authentic African fabrics.
    * The holiday tree located near the entrance to Once Upon A Toy at the Downtown Disney® Marketplace is decorated with a toy theme featuring toys from the shop.
    * Overall, the Walt Disney World® Resort is decorated with approximately 8.5 million lights, approximately 15 miles of garland and more than 300,000 yards of ribbon.
    * The largest wreath at the Walt Disney World® Resort is 25 feet in diameter. This wreath is located on the Cirque du Soleil building at Downtown Disney® West Side.
    * Both the Disney Magic® and Disney Wonder® feature a 20-foot tree and themed decorations in each of the ship’s restaurants.
    * Between the two ships there are 25 trees. Along with the terminal, this means Disney Cruise Line® uses approximately 25,950 holiday lights.
    * The ships are decked with 1,260 feet of garland, which sparkles with 14,700 lights.
    * Each ship features 40 custom-decorated wreaths lit with approximately 6,000 lights.
    * More than 3,600 yards of ribbon are used to decorate the wreaths, garland and trees at Disney Cruise Line®.
    * The Disney Magic® is the only ship that has a holiday tree on its mast. There are more than 1,000 ornaments on this lobby tree alone.
