Hey just a quick question, was wondering what kind of adaptor i need to use my english plug items in Florida??? I have a laptop, GHD's, hairdryer etc. please msg me asap as i fly on tuesday :S
Hey, for these items all you will need a travel adaptor for UK to USA, you can get them in loads of places and they are really cheap, like £1.50 or something, if even that.
also..when i went to florida last year, i took my GHDs and adaptor, but they didnt heat up well at all! dont know whether it was just me but it was like having a first generation babyliss straightner again!
You're totally right, I forgot about that bit. When I was there in January my sister's GHD's took a while to heat up and didn't get as hot as they usally do. I think it's something to do with the power voltage that they use in the US.
I had that problem too, ggrrrr!! I am going to buy some Coriolis straighteners in Orlando, they are just as good as ghds and then they will actually work! Worth the money as I cant live without straighteners!
Do we need those biop metric passport5s-whatever they are-i called yummy jobs and they said no but im not too sure i trust yummy jobs advice lol
I took my Mark Hill Morphy Richards straightners and they heated up just fine...it just took a bit longer. My roomate bought straightners out there though, so I'd recommend that.
ive got a couple of trvel adaptors to go with - the cheapert ones and im buying one of the more expensive surge protector type ones for my laptop - u get them drom electrical places liek currys and they cost around £10+ i dont want my lappy dying whilst im there
You shouldn't need one for your laptop, the power cord should have dual voltage settings built in. Most things like that do, mobile chargers, iPod charges and all those kinda things. But it might be best to buy one to stay on the safe side. lol.
hey guys! just to say that ghds and hairdryers and that will work with an adaptor, but they will defo b no where near as good as what they r here! you only get half the voltage of what u do here! so they take AGES to heat up then are pretty rubbish. be just as well to buy some out there i reckon!
no, you don't need to get the new passports. not unless yours will run out while there or withing 6 months of coming home! I had to get a new one for that reason, but you'll still get around with a regular passport.
i had to get a new passport because mine was running out. did u hear that these new biometric ones apparantly the chips go within 2 years - if thats true then that will seriously suck because according to the gumph of info i got with mine if they stop working u have to pay for a new one - i dont like the idea of coughing up £50+ every 2 years for a new passport
i took my laptop last summer and it really f'd up the battery life! when i got home to uk it would only last literally 12 minutes without being plugged in. we took ghds and they heated up fine. if you have the new ones ghd mk4, they are designed to adapt to international voltage so i think i might invest in some! hairdryers arnt worth taking but be careful which kind u buy cus i got a revlon one last year an it was rubbish plus the switch was actually on the bit that goes into the plug so everytime u wanted to switch it off u had to get up an go to the wall!
Does anyone know if you can buy american ghd's? cause i don't think i could survive a year without them not heating up properly! lol xxx
They do have american GHD's but I dunno where u can buy them - I've jst seen them on the website. I just bought a new pair recently and apparently the new ones have been designed to adapt to the voltage. If u have the old ones I soooo wouldnt take them - I took my old GHD's (Which I only got about a year and a half ago and worked perfectly!) this year and the voltage jst totally broke them. Which is why I had to buy a new pair! XxX
