If I'll have to quit and go home during my program, will I be fined? is it legally or penally illegal to sever my contract? obviusly I'd like to stay untill the end but I'd to know if I could have any problem if for some reason I'll quit...thanks
yes I mean it...if I have to go, I'll leave the country as soon as possible...I won't go home but I have to know if I could if I would need it...are you sure there will no be any legal problem?
dont quote me on this but i think that you would only get the money for your return flight if you complete the entire year.. if you are asked to go home or need to go home before that time for whatever reason you are free to do so but it is at your own cost...
as far as I know there is no legal problem, it odviously won't look good for you as you will have left an employer in the lurch, but nothing binding. also if for whatever reason you didn't leave (within the 24 hours) then there would be major issues with trying to enter the US again. the cost of the flight would also be insane!!!
Specially that... and if you are lucky... imagine having to buy an emergency ticket during the summer or christmas holidays... scary and expensive!!!
thanks men...a lot...now I'm feeling more certain about what I've to do...I have to try if you have some more pieces of news please tell me... will be there written on my CV or something like that (if I quit)?
Professionaly speaking you'd have to add the dates you worked at Disney... for example March the 20th 2011 to January 30th 2012, and if the recruiter asks why you left the job position you'd have to say something like "personal reasons" or "got terminated because..." Or something like that.
yeah no I know it...it is only for my parents...they want to know that I can come home if something goes wrong...but for example how can I do this? I'm working there, my parents call me and tell me I have to come back for (obviously) some reasons..then where do I say that? I leave and I have to go straight to the airport and leave...is it right? but before coming there you need a/r tickets, aren't you? so, in that case, I'll lost money from the r ticket and I've to pay for another one...or could I change the date of my ticket and pay the difference? thanks guys...I know I'm boring but my parents need it
OK you can quit or self terminate as they call it. When you go there to start your program you only need a one way ticket to get there. There is no legal stuff at all. You quit, then you leave the country. Just call your manager and that's that. As bad as this sounds... they just replace you with someone else. And you just don't get your money that you would have if you finished the program.
I think that you'd need to discuss the situation with your manager or supervisor to see what can be done... if you self-terminate well... you know the rest. About the plane ticket, it all depends on if you buy a RT ticket or a OW ticket... if you have the RT you need to change the date and follow the fee's regulations (penalty fee per change and fee difference if it applies) and if you have a OW ticket then you have to buy the other part. It can change from where you fly to Orlando, if it's from Europe, I'd suggest you buy a RT ticket and then cancel the segment you're not using once the original date of departure is close and then assign a new one once you leave. I'd recomend you check with a travel agency that sells student/youth travelers/work & study plane tickets and such, they should give you a best recommendation than mine. I'm a travel agent, but it's different to give an explanation through here than in person.
I knew a girl whose brother was seriously hurt back in the UK whilst she was over on the CRP, she was able to swap some shifts and spoke to her line manager and was able to get a week off to fly home, but she had been there for 10 months, and after 9 we are able to put in for unpaid holiday as long as the season is right. It will really depend on what's happened//who it's happened to (I know that sounds horrible, but that is also for insurance as they only cover immediate family, so mother, father or siblings.) I am sure if you had to quit because something had happened (fingers crossed that doesn't happen to ANYONE!) then I am sure disney would be extremely understanding, and also your friends who you have made will be able to help you out with packing//transport to the airport I am sure. I know of some people who have quit due to not enjoying the experience, which is not only a massive waste of money for them, but also a position which could have gone to someone else. Like ashley 86 said, for Disney there is always someone on a waitlist, they will have someone they can phone and the time in between that person flying out there will always be someone after a shift!!! xx
Do it!! Good luck with the process! If you have any questions then just search the board//ask!! I found this place so useful whilst I was applying//waiting because you can find out about people's personal experiences, really useful when trying to decide if its right for you!!!
It's not a big deal, people quit over at the Norway pavilion all the time - especially during the summer. Hehe. Myself included. I self terminated 4 weeks before I was finished. I just finished my shift at work, told my managers I was going home and flew home the next day. The only thing is you'll have to pay for your own planeticket home, and there might be a problem with working for Disney again if you want to sometime later. They'll put you on an either "no rehire" status or "restricted rehire" status, but I'm told this goes away after a year or two, and you might be able to work for them again if you prove you have 1 year of work or something. I'm applying again this year and hoping it'll work out for me even though I self terminated last time (which is now over 2 years ago)
You'd only have a problem going back to the USA if you self-termed but tried to stay longer than 48 hours (peak seasons are 48 hours, the rest of the year is 24 hours). They'd be asking why you were staying because the moment you quit, Disney is no longer sponsoring you to stay in the US and at that point you would become illegal. Peopl quit all the time, but you would possibly be given negative rehire but it would depend on the circumstances that you left under. As far as I'm aware though, rehire status stays with you forever. Mine had to be checked before I was rehired this time, and my last was over two years ago and they made a point of telling us (without looking at our dates) you WILL be checked for rehire. And that covers ALL Disney companies. People would leave for all sorts of reasons, bereavements, accidents etc (though some would be able to get time off to fly home and then back) or some people just can't hack it and go home. Disney practically expects that to happen, it's why you are told at interview stage that it WILL be hard to be abroad and it WILL be hard work! On the other hand, it's also pretty rare to see people go too. If you are termed/fired for any reason, that's more serious. Disney do their best not to involve the actual police (if it's say, underage drinking etc) but if the Orange County police are involved then you would be chucked out of the country and not allowed back in for 10 years. Apart from that though, so long as you leave the country fast after a terming you'd just get negative rehire and that's it. I know a lot of that sounds pretty negative! But it's not. The vast majority of people have no problems and enjoy themselves and complain about work like normal people! It's a brilliant year and I always recommend it to people. Parents will always worry when it's the younger lot going over but unless you did something hideously wrong yourself then everything would work out okay.
