Does anyone know if we have to live on property? I have friends in the area and already have a room there when I go visit so... i was wondering if it was mandatory to stay in the dorms? Thanks!

I heard that you don't HAVE to live on property, but unfortunately, due to your contract and visa I believe that regardless, you'd still have to pay to live there. Part of the program.

I could be wrong, but that is what I've read on the boards before. Kinda poopy I know.

Personally, if they were still going to take money out of my pay for my room, then I think I'd live in the housing instead.

Again, I could be wrong. If I am, feel free to correct me. I guess the only way you'll know 100% is to contact the recruiting agency.

I've heard that too. Your rent automatically gets taken out of your pay, so you'd be paying for something you're not using. I think you have to live on Disney property for the first x amount of time at least.

Hopefully someone who knows (rather than is just guessing!) can help you out.

You have to stay on disney property as part of your visa

People do live off property with mates soemtimes but they then still [pay rent

also by living off property you will miss out on some of the best parts of the programme - living on site is part of the fun and experience

I think it would be more interesting to live in the apartments.
I feel like you'd be missing out on the whole experience of a cultural representative. You could learn all about different countries just by talking to your roommates.

Something I've been wondering about the living situation. How is it for privacy? I know it's all part of the experience to have roommates and all that but I really like having my own space. I know it's two people to a room and I have to be honest, I don't like the sound of that LOL. I guess you get used to it. I've heard there are single accommodations but that it's very rare to get that. Is this true?

I'm 99.9% sure that's not possible. Even if you get the one bedroom apartment you'll still have to share with another person. I guess you'll just have to hope that your roommate has a bf or bff to stay with most of the time. ;)

I have a friend who has a three person apartment. Not sure how it happened, but it's the only one I've heard of yet.

Roomies aren't that bad. I have 7, and I love them all :) Even if you prefer to live on your own, or tend to keep to yourself, you'll always find someone here who feels the same way and would be a great roommate. Besides, if it just doesn't work out and you feel like you're going to explode, you can move. Simple easy peasy. Somewhat lol

Most likely you won't be working the exact same hours as your roommate either, so you will get some time to yourself. There were times when my roommate worked 7am til mid day and I worked 4 until 11 and we never saw each other except for sleeping. One of my friends pretty much lived alone in a one bedroom because her roommate lived with her boyfriend. You can also escape on your own to the parks, under a tree to read, to Mickey's retreat, shopping, to the beach. If you want time to yourself, you pretty much can always find it somewhere.
And as Rin said, if you don't like your roommates you can move :)

Yeah it is true that you can move if you're really unhappy. I'd feel kinda rude just packing up and leaving though LOL. Surely things wouldn't be so bad that you'd feel the need to move.
How is it sleeping pretty much right next to someone else? I guess you get used to each others schedules with alarm clocks going off etc. Is the bathroom connected to the room or separate?

    Hi

there are 3 person appartments in the commons i think there are 4 of them in total where theres 2 people in one room and one in the other but i dont know if there are others elsewhere the ones in the common are the furtherest building away from anything like literally at the bottom with a 10 min walk to the clubhouse type of thing.

the rooms you stay in are actually pretty big depending on the number of people in the appartment etc but basically theres gonna be 2-3 metres of space between your bed and your roomies generally so your not sleeping right next to each other. again depending on room style you can also move beds to maximise the space so for example in my 4 person appartment i had my bed in a alcove space by the window and my roomie had hers along the wall next to the bathroom it m eant that whern she used her reading light it hardly showed where i slept and vice versa.

I moved appartments twice first time from an 8 person because it was too big and 4 girls to a shower was a nightmare - i got my move agreed and said bye to the roomies no probs and no bad feelings stayed friends with them all they understood totally the reason for moving. 2nd move was from sharing with a brit girl in a 4 person appartment and i just left her a ntoe saying sorry im moving - the reason being she was pretty disgusting to live with i have ocd and sharing with someone who leaves mouldy food in random drawers and all their junk on the floor isnt something i can cope with. Have to say the second move didnt go down well but I wasnt prepared to spend another 7 months living with someone I didnt like at the end of the day its your programme so you need to be happy where your living.

The alarm thing you get used to after a while you wake up and go back to sleep so its not a problem in my first appartment my roomie worked at akl and she was up at 5am in the morning and in bed at 8pm each night so we were both just careful about being quiet when getting up or soming in - its about a compromoise. in my last appartment my roomie was another uk in f&b so we had similar shifts - she sometimes had her bf over for the night and when that happened i slept on the sofa in the living room cos he snored but it wasnt a problem. you also get a pretty decent discount on the different disney resorts so i made the most of that and often booked a few nights in a resort with a friend - sometimes you only pay like $15 each for the night which was brill and a fun way to see the resports

    Hey everyone!

You are making me a little at ease because the rooming situation was my biggest concern! I have never had to share a bedroom (i have 2 older bros who shared) and even in college I had GUY room mates, not girls so they were always in and out of the bathroom... not hogging it...

What is it like with the washer / dryer situation? Are they in the actual apartment we stay in? Or is there like a big room somewhere in one of the buildings that is all washers and dryers? And also, what's like sharing the fridge for everyone?

    Thanks!

Washer/Dryer - depends on the complex your in - in the commons they are in your appt, in the others you have to use the laundrette place where its like $1 to use them or something. With work costumes you can drop them into costuming to get them washed and dried for you but most people dont - if you get a costume that fits you hang on to it for dear life because disney sizes are beyond bizarre.

In the 8 person apprtment I was in we had a fridge freezer - but some appartments have 2! the fridge is plenty big for you to have a shelf each near enough but the freezer is tiny very small - about the same size as a microwave which did suck. If your in an appt with less people tho its easier for space - with 4 of us it was fine

I definitely want in the commons then!!! It would be sooo much more convenient! Thanks for the info and responding! I think that is my biggest fear is making the rooming situation work, plus I really don’t want to have to carry laundry all over the place… not fun…

this is off topic of the thread but regarding the costume situation - how bad are the costume sizes?? i hadnt even considered this as i just thought disney wouldnt want people wearing things that looked like they didnt fit! im just worried as im 5ft and generally do find everything to be TOO BIG!! do they cater for short people or is it you kinda just have to make do??

By what I heard, I think its a case of making do! I heard that some people even wash their own costumes because they found one that fit and don't one to chance never getting it back again :D !

The costumes can be grim buutttt if you cant find a costume to fit then you can get one of the seamstresses in costuming to fix it for you - for example they only had teeny cumberbands and all the size 14 up were out so they made me a new one
