Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me. I have been watching these boards for a while and finally decided to post. It may be a long post, so please bear with me. I am 23 and from Glasgow, Scotland. I am disabled- I have M.E. and I really want to apply to work at DisneyWorld in Florida. I shall give you some background- I have been disabled for the last 9 years and left school with few qualifications. I did a non-graduating course so that I could go into full-time at Glasgow Uni (Psychology). I have spent the last five years doing this and have just found out that I didn't get into honours again. Where Disney is concerned, I have two choices (I think. Can someone confirm): 1. I can forego going back to Uni and apply to Disney IP programme. 2. I can go back to Uni and repeat and apply for the International CP. I do not have much work experience (as in I've only had a couple of jobs). I only have experience to do F&B, but I don't know if my health is up to that. I thought that the CP would be better because of a shorter time out there, also I read that the hours were less and that I could work in a place other than the world showcase at Epcot, and therefore possible less demnding accoring to my disbility. My dream would be to dress up as Stitch, but I hear that there are auditions for that and I think at 5'6" Im too tall. I have a company that helps disabled people back to work looking into this for me, but I thought that you might be able to help. Are there any special programmes for disabled people from the UK? Am I more likely to be accepted for the CP than the IP? Is there any other way I can do it? All information and help welcome. Thanks in advance. Lisa. xXx
Hi Lisa I think I can answer a few of your questions for you but I think your best bet is to email Jason at Yummy jobs (the recruitment centre for the UK)- jason@yummyjobs.com to ask him for sure. I think you're right with your 2 options- although with your first would it not be possible to go back to uni after doing the IP maybe? It doesn't matter where your experience is- I only have merch experience and yet go out to do f&b in a few weeks- they train you so it makes no difference that way. There is no specific programme (as far as I'm aware) for disabled people from the UK- and I don't really know whether its easier to get into the CP or IP- or whether its pretty much similar chances. I suspect there may be fewer applicants for the CP (esp since this summer is the first they've done it since 9/11) so maybe your chances are slightly higher BUT I've heard its a lot harder work and much more hours. So I'm not sure that I've been that much help in total lol- but really email Jason- and add a phone number- since it may be easier for them to phone you to talk it through. They're all really nice there and very helpful. Hope you get to go out there! Best wishes Charlotte x
I also think that the CP is much more demanding as you are hired to work during the VERY busy periods. The IP has up times and down times, so it doesn't seem as hectic all the time. Shan
