I've just head my telephone interview with Alexis and I think it went very well but a question has been raised over my application due to the fact that I am applying through UCAS. I have just finished a Foundation degree at one university and I am taking a year out before I commence the 3rd year of my study at another university in september 2006. Technically, in order to be eligible for the J1 visa, you need to be between academic years at a university however this does not really apply to me! This is also coupled with the fact that in applying through UCAS I don't have a firm place so there may be problems in getting the letters filled out!

Any of you guys applied through UCAS while you went on the college program or know any more information regarding the J1 visa?

if you're inbetween universities, does that mean that you may not get the job due to Visa constraints?? can't they let you do the IP instead?
surely there's got to be some way around it?!

@ Tinkerbell - do you know someone called Gareth Broderick by any chance?

I think the IP is just too long for me. I'll be 22 when I graduate and I really want to get my career going. Any idea if you can have a shorter contract on the IP instead of the normal 12 months?

See the IP as time out - not only will it be one of the most enriching experiences in your life - it may actually change the direction you want your life to head in. I turned 22 while I was out there (straight after Uni)
you got 40 years of daily grind ahead of you Martin (lets face it - the way the system's goin in UK - we may be working til we're 70!!!! lol!!!)

remember... you only regret the things you didn't do.... :)
