hey everyone i'm wondering what everyone did/is doing for prescription drugs? is it a better idea to purchase the whole 12 or 13 months in advance in Canada and bring them all down to FL or buy them in the states? can you run into issues at US customs if you come with a suitcase loaded with prescriptions? i just want to make sure i dont end up spending lots of extra money! thanks!!
Unfortunately I can't help you, however your question's really interesting, in my opinion I do hope someone more experienced will provide some helpful information, since in December I'll move to Disney World as a CRP and have no idea about what to do with the medicines (it would be quite uneasy to have them sent from Italy every month).
I am in the same position... i dont think popping back to england once a month is very practical.lol there must be some way round it, i know alot of people with pre-existing conditions who have gone out,so hopefully its not too much of a problem....i say optimistically. I am pleased(not in a horrible way, lol) that i am not the only one who has this problem. xxx
Oooh great question, wish I'd asked on here. If anyone has any info I would greatly appreciate it too I rang up STA (I have my insurance with them) and they said they don't cover for pre-existing conditions :/ does a pre-existing condition need to be covered? I rang Hannah from Yummy and we had a chat about it but she just said see what happens now after my Blood results and to get back to her and she'll be able to help me more from there xx
I wear contacts and I am bringing down a 6 month supply with me, I did this for the ICP and had no issue flying with that many with me. I can only get a 6 months at a time so I got a prescription to order more down there. As for prescriptions, last summer I was on medicine for my stomach and had no trouble bringing a large supply with me. I know some pharmacies are iffy about giving you a year's supply of medication (mine refused to give me 6 months worth of another prescription). I would bring as much as you can down with you and bring a prescription for the rest. There is a Walgreens in walking distance from housing.
For some prescriptions (in the uk anyway), they will give you enough to cover you for the year. Well that's what the doctor said about mine. Maybe it might be worth asking them and explaining the situation?
I have cream and tablets I have to take with me, a years supply is sooo heavy though! Prescriptions? Shoes? Prescriptions? Shoes? Prescriptions? SHOES! ;D
My prescription isn't for a pre existing medical condition. So my insurance is gonna be pretty easy as I don't have any conditions (well none that I know of... yet!)
thanks for the responses!! i dont have a pre-existing condition, i just mostly want to cut costs on the pills and avoid any problems at the border. i think i will e-mail Kristen at yummy and see what she says
just to warn u - you can get into trouble with customs if your bringing medication into the usa :S not sure what the limit is but there is one. also some meds available in the uk are not licensed for use in usa so check that ur meds are available in the usa before u go as well a sorta example would be the contracpetive implant for girls - they dont use it in usa and therefore if anything goes wrong with it (infection or anything which can happen) it isnt straight forward to dealw ith and costs more as they arent used to it most drs/pharmacies will give u up to 4 months of prescriptions (a few will give up to 6 months as well) prescriptions bought in usa can run pretty expensive e.g. course of antibiotics around $100 Disney insurance doesnt cover 100% of meds or expenses i think there is different levels but i remember one beig 70/30 as in they pay 70% and you find the other 30% ad others being them paying a higher percentage I had to have repeat bloods done by the dr in the usa before they would give me my meds because in the UK we use different scales to the usa for blood glocuse and also the thresholds are differet so they werent happy with accepting my print out of my most recent blood works and i think thats standard procedure from the other people i knew who had pre-existing conditions also if you buy a 12 moth insurance policy most policies dont cover the cost of prescriptions ad if they do cover some of the cost it teds to be you have to pay up front and the claim back. so if you are going to buy your own policy check if they will pay up front or not - if your sick the bill can be huge and you might not have enough money to cover it yourself upfri t which can be a problem
Would you recommend a letter from the doctors stating why you have the prescriptions? Mine aren't nothing serious; steroid cream, a special moisturiser and acne tablets (yuck haha!) x
i would prob consider it and a copy of your prescriptio and maybe a print out of any recent bloodwork etc thats been done
I read on the Facebook group that it's just over $10 a week for dental, doctors and optical (or something) ;D
What about buying contact lenses in the US? I read somewhere (probably in the Italian subforum) that our Italian prescriptions are not valid, since an American prescription is required (cost: 130$ more or less ). Even on-line shops require a copy of the American prescription via fax or e-mail, so I'm afraid I'll have to bring some lenses from Italy and then have a few other boxes sent from my parents ??? Any information?
Hi, Just wondering how easy it is to get contraception in America? Is it still free? (I'm guessing not...) I need it for medical reasons as well as the obvious so I need to know I can get it easily otherwise I might have to try and convince my doctor to give me a year's worth in one go!! Thanks xx
Let me tell you, as a Canadian living in the US full time and no longer at Disney.... I MISS DISNEY INSURANCE! Haha sounds weird, I know, but seriously, their insurance was sooo cheap and my doc at Centre for LivingWell (clinic in the parking lot of Epcot Cast Services, only for CMs) was great. After you've been there for 90 days, you are eligible for their coverage, I think I just got the basic plus dental which was something like 7$ per pay. About 2 months into my contract, I met an American guy and it quickly became a serious, committed relationship (*coughs* not a common thing down there....) so I decided to take advantage of the insurance and went and did the whole routine of getting BC pills, including lady tests, etc. It was so easy and Kelly Miglin is the most easy-going doctor I've ever been to see. I only had to pay 2$/month for the pills (with my current coverage I pay 25$/month) and you can get it right there at LivingWell or get it anywhere else you want to pick it up. They're also pretty quick for walk-ins which is often helpful. If I were you, I would probably get 3 months stock of your scrips and bring them over there a couple of weeks before they are done, and ask them to refill them. It'll be a piece of cake.
