Okay, I'm filling in my DS-156 and there is a section to specify the previous dates you have entered the US.

I got my own passport for the first time when I was about 12, it was a 10 year passport that had to be sent in to renewed after 5 years because of my age. So I got it renewed in 2000, then got my new one that I will be travelling to disney on this year. I have my old passport (the one from 2000) but not the one from before that.

Problem is, I know I travelled to the US several times on the missing one, but because I can't find it and can't remember the times myself I don't know the specific dates!

Shall I just fill in the dates I do know and explain to the visa people or what?

I would call the Embassy, or even call Yummy Jobs. I'm sure they'll know what to do.
I can't remember the exact dates I entered previously either - I was really lucky that my parents somehow remembered.

I'm going on holiday to america in august, then have my visa interview a week after i get back. Will that affect my visa application? (i'm flying out on the 20th September)

Jason told me that I didn't need to take my old passports so I guess the times you went to america that was stamped in there are not so important but I still listed every time I've been to the states......unless you've been there 3000 times, I'm sure you'll remember the month and year you went!! :D

Chris: I'd phone the (really expensive telephone line for the) embassy to ask about your question!
    Ellen x x x :D

I don't, that's my problem. Hence my need for my old passport. Hmm....

I phoned the embassy twice, the first time the woman blatantly didn't understand the question and kept saying "you'll have to wait till you get to immigration/customs in florida so see if they'll let you in"!!!

not much use, so i rang again and they said it would be fine as i'll be going on holiday on a visa waiver program (?) so it won't interfere with getting the work visa.
