I don't know what to do! I usually carry my passport in my handbag as I still get asked for ID a lot and I have nothing else, but the one time I decide to put it away and it's now damaged...not hugely so but i'm still worried it will give me problems. I put it in my suitcase as I was going home and a bottle of sun lotion exploded over it, I had bagged the lotion but that leaked too. I washed my passport and it seemed fine but when it dried some ink from one of my stamps has leaked around my photo. The ink stops before my face, so the picture itself is still clear, but i'm worried they'll still say no. Here's a bad picture, what do you think?
I really don't want to have to renew my passport, not when I leave in 7 weeks and hope to be getting my visa in a few weeks.

Thanks! I totally didn't think about yummy... i'll see what they say. I've tried looking all over the government website and there's not much info on severity of damage before you need a renewal.

you better ask yummy, but even the damage its not big, u maybe need to ask for a new one, i dont know how long tkes in the UK to get a new one, here its one day thing, all the process u go and do the papers and all in the morning and inmthe afternon u get it, so its pretty quick, but with this kindof documents are very strict abou them. bough a little ziploc bag to ur passaport that way doesnt matter what happen,it will be safe ;)

    good luck!

Michele asked Jason and he thinks I should just get another passport...now i'm worried!
The government passport website says i'm not eligible for the two week or less service as it's damaged. But the full process takes up to 6 weeks now, when i'm supposed to leave in 6 weeks and 5 days and have to get my visa some time inbetween! I think now is the time to panic?

would you not be able to go to your local airport and ask some one at a check in desk if they would take it, get advice from them as they see passports in so many states and they can give you a better idea on what too do. just trying to think of some ideas for you. i do hope that it gets sorted for you.

Thanks for the suggestions... the only problem really is the American embassy and security at their side. I really don't think it's too bad and everyone who sees it thinks it's not too bad. We just don't know how strict they're going to be in Florida when going through security. It really does look obvious that it's just a bit of spilt water, it's not like i've drawn all over my face or anything. Oh well, we'll see. I'm tempted to get as far as the visa appointment and see what they say as if they think it's ok then i'll be fine. It says on the website the damage has to be more than usual wear and tear before it's classed as damaged, and I don't think a bit of blue ink is..? Oh I don't know.
