Thinking of applying but haven't got around to it yet. Does anyone know anything about what the odds are of getting through the interviews and stuff? Just thought I'd ask.

I'd say pretty good Sarah. I haven't actually heard of any alumni who haven't been offered a position. Whether they all actually made it onto the ships however,.... ::) ;D

I don't know how much space they have for living, but I've heard that unemployment in Florida is really really low, just like in Alberta... so they are somewhat understaffed. Don't know if that affects international recruiting though...

It has nothing to do with the umemployment rate in florida, if you get a job on board or not. dcl and all other companies are always looking for crew. the turn over is just amazingly high. The chance for an international to get hired for dcl shoreside jobs is zero - because of the working permission.

And for us citizens it's not really worth to do it, like for many europeans.
There are only a few, let's say 10 americans on board. There was the HR manager but he resigned, hr assistant officer, a security officer, merchandise manager, youth councellor manager, 2 cruise stuff crew members... don't remember anyone else..

@ gismo: what position do u wanna apply for?

I think I would prefer guest relations or merchandise. Don't really fancy being a server on the boat as they seem to have the worse job going (loads of hours and very little thanks for it from what people working on the boat told me).

    It's a SHIP ;D

guest services makes almost the same money like merchandise but they work more hours and don't do much overtime. my friend made on her 6month contract almost no overtime.

I would say for the first contract it's good to be a merchie, so u can get used to the ship and they way it works. Guest services gets all the complains from everyone at any time and no thank you at all - like dining room, so it can be really difficult.

    good luck,

    dani

Working on a cruiseline sounds like it'd be fun, but right now, its still good ol' wdw for me!

OK when it says attach a photo does it have to be like a professional looking one or like a passport one, or can it be a holiday photo? I don't think I have any recent photos other than holiday photos which is why I'm asking

a professional looking passport picture.... but i didnt have one either when I applied so I did take a vacation picture and cut the head off after I scanned it. in this way you can make some changes on the picture... mine looked like a passport picture after all...
