Earlier on this year I renewed my phone contract for two years (cheaper and I never thought I would be accepted for the program!). I was walking past the phone shop and thought I would speak to them as I know my friend had to pay loads when she went traveling. I hoped as I was giving them nearly a years notice of me going to Disney that they would be able to do something. They have told me all I can do is transfer the name or put the contract on hold for 6 months. If I was to put my contract on hold I would still need to pay 6 months whilst at Disney. I wouldn't be able to use my phone during this time as they network would charge me alot for any calls or texts. I may have a family member that I could transfer the name to but I just wondered what others had done with their phone contracts?
i was with o2 on a 24 month contract which started last september. they gave me two options - buy out the rest of the contract (a completely ridiculous idea as it wouldve got around £400) or transfer it to another person. i eventually had to transfer it to my dad. when i rung up customer services they said they can lessen the amount the tariff is to the lowest one after a while. i think at the mo it's only £15 a month my dads paying...but sucks to pay for a phone thats not being used. i have never heard of anyone getting round it basically. it seems a bit harsh that they cant freeze ur contract and then start it up again one you're back :-(
Amy - I've got the same problem - I'll have 10 months left on my contract when I leave for Florida... Orange said they'd freeze it for 6 months but that means I still have to pay for 6 months and complete the final 4 months when I get back before my upgrade (that's not the problem LOL)... I've decided to freeze it from Dec-June (I arrive beginning of Nov) and leave the sim card at home so my family can put it in another phone and use it... then it will cost me about £25x6 (£150ish) for the remaining six months after it's unfrozen but at least my family can use the minutes or whatever I guess...
Doesn't look like there is a lot that I can do I'm going to have the same phone for 2 1/2 years now as well! I have a year to find someone to take it over! Do you know if English phones can work in the US? I know someone that brought one back and they couldn't use it?
I think your phone would have to be a world phone to actually work in the US. I think that most are nowadays, but you should check with your phone's features. Maybe ask the company you got your phone from if it's a world phone and if it will work in the US?
