    Hey guys :)
Just after a bit of advice on mobile phones.I currently have an Iphone and its got a year left of its contract, booo :(
Just wondering what people recommended I do.Is it best for me to sell it over here and use the money I get to pay off the contract and i'l just get a new phone overthere with a paygo sim?
Or Can I take my Iphone with me and get it unlocked and put a paygo sim in it.I'm just paranoid about taking a uk contract phone over there incase i get a massive bill, and I'm worried that it will roam the internet constantly!
If anyone has any advice that would be awesome!!I think i'm just going to get a paper cup on a bit of string from now on!

If i were you, i'd see if you can buy your contract out
i know a few people who had not finished thier contracts by the time they went out and they just rang up their provider (orange, t-mobile, 02 etc) and told them the situation and just paid it off, now with you having a year left, it may be waaay expensive, but its an option?

then if you love your iphone, get it unlocked and take it with you :)

hey! just ring your network & see what the best option is for you!! Luckily mine is just ending before I fly out & Im with Vodafone, but I know on some networks(not sure who!) you can like 'take a break' from your contract and just carry it on when you come home. See about buying it out, cos most companys should offer a discount (vodafone is 25% off total bill) and then just get your phone unlocked! your iphone will cost you an absolute fortune out there if u keep your UK contract!! xxxx

I'm on the same situation here in Mexico. I have an iPhone and my cel company didn't get me many choices. I will have to keep paying my regular monthly bill but I will unlock it and use a pay as you go sim card.

I'll have 6 months left on my contract with o2. I love my iPhone though so I want to take it with me. Can't find a company that does a good deal for payg with unlimited Internet (sim only).

Thanks for asking the question though. I was wondering the same :)

when i was in the states i had a 2 year contract, so when I left i thought it was going to cost me a lot to cancel it, but i just told them i wasn't living in the country anymore and I didn't have to pay anything. I'm pretty sure canada makes you pay the contract out, so I don't know what the UK would do, but there's no harm in trying?

I'm thinking about getting a cell (since I don't have one right now) but I'm not sure if I should go with a Canadian company to buy the phone and plan. I was thinking Fido since they have a two year contract with a free phone but I don't know if it's worth it if I'm heading out to the US for one of those years. I want to be able to get and make calls/texts in the US and back home to Canada. So is it worth it buying a US phone and plan or should I stick with a Canadian?

I don't know about Fido and how easy it is to get out of their plans, or how their coverage is in the states. I currently have wind mobile which I had to buy the phone out right, but it's a month to month contract so I can quit paying whenever I want, and then I can use to blackberry i have in the states on Verizons network. My other blackberry I have is Sprint from my last contract and they have unlimited everything (including texting/calling Canada and all data) for 70 a month i think? Most Fido workers seem kinda chill so tell him you're moving to the states for a year and see what he says, the Bell and telus ppl I talked to were jerky about it, and I almost went with Fido but Wind had a better promo going on when i bought mine.

sorry i'm not very helpful... I know a few of my friends had canadian phones and would only text other ppl and not call so that it was cheap, and it worked well bc if they had to call they would just use their apartment phone.

Gah! This is all so confusing! lol. I use my parents' cell right now since I don't have the money to pay for my own. They use Rogers but I HATE Rogers! I'll probably try Fido and ask them about the whole US thing if I get accepted for next year. I like Fido because they're cheap and cheerful! Their plans are really good compared to a lot of other places. I guess it's my beginner company.
