Hello everyone! Just wondering.................. whats eveyone doing for mobile phones??? Im guessing taking my contract phone over will cost a bomb to use! I wonder whats best to do, take out a contract or get a pay as you go whilst there? What are other people doing?? WOOOP WOOP!
I got a really cheap old style Nokia (which cost something like $40) from Walmart and then topped it up when I needed. I really only used it for texting and the apartment phone for waking people up LOL. I know some people do get contract phones...depends how much you're willing to spend out of what's left of your paycheck!
haha!!! luke!!!!! anyways am getting a pay as you go from here or jus a sim card and using that one over there babey!!! cant wait!!! hollaaaaaaaaa xxxxxxx
I looked into it and all you need should you want to get a contract phone is a social security number and a bank account, both of which we get when we start.
I think il end up getting a contract phone over dere just coz i find it easier and top up cards annoy me!! gunna suss out the costs for a week or so first and see if anyone else has got a good deal then i'll know where to go!
I was over there in June and needed to text my friends who live there so I bought a lil cute motorola phone on a pay and go service called tracfone, which combined with the credit cost me about £30 quid which was fab for 3 weeks, but im thinkin of lookin into a contract or another pay n go service for the year!! Gooooooosh sooooo much stuff to organise!!! LOL!! Cant wait tho yaaaaaaaaay!!! xx
I would say a contract phone is the best thing to go for. The past 2 years that i have been over there... I had the same sim which i bought from an american phone site. At first it was ok... text's werent to bad but then there was a few weeks where i would put at least £40 on it which was insane!! This time round i am going to go for a contract phone as you can get some really good deals with t-mobile!
Nearly everyone (in the commons) bought a cheap motorola pay as you go phone from walmart for $18 which includes $10 credit. The phone's on Cingular (now AT&T) and gives you free calls to anyone on that network (practically everyone in the commons) and texts are 5c - the only downside is it eats your money - it charges you $1 per day that you use the phone - free calls or not! I'm thinking of getting a contract with T-Mobile cos they have some excellent deals and disney cast get 10% discount on line rental.
i've bought a mobile for $30 with net 10 and top it up with a $30 topup. its great value for money as you can register it for international calling and ring any UK landline for 15cents per min. bargin.
My mate is going to work in australia for a year and hes doing it through a company like yummy jobs and they've organised for him to have a mobile already sorted it all out for him so that he can use it straight away. The company was Bunac, does anyone know if yummy jobs does something like that? i mean i'll probably get it myself anyway but just just wondered if they did this because some people might find it useful having things arranged for them x
