    Hiya

i have a friend whos looking at becoming a police officer but isn't sure which way to go about it.

He has family in the armed forces so to become a red cap (army police) is the natural step to him, but theres also the RAF police and the normal service he is considering.

I've offered to go into the special constabulary with him so that he can get a feel for what the everyday police force do in his free time and see how he likes it and make his choice from that, but it only give him experience in that field and not the military, so we are sending of our applications today to see how things go.

so does was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this that may help him out?

thanks in advance for any help u can give

Applying for the specials is pretty tough you know.

I applied about a year ago. You have to do the written test which is the same for the regular Police. Thats not too hard (I passed it anyway!), then you have an interview with the force where you want to work. I was interviewed by 2 Coppers and it was the hardest interview ive ever done. They really grill you and you have to be able to answer pretty tough questions and relate them to your work experience, which when your fairly young is pretty hard to do as you dont have that much life experience.

Anyway somehow I passed the interview! You then have a medical, which makes you feel like a bit of a lab rat, then if you pass that you start your training which takes about 12 weeks!

Ive been accepted but im gonna see if I can defer my start date as Im off to Disney soon. :)

    hiya izzy

thanks for you help and advice, and congrates on getting through the selection process so i hope they will let u defer ur entry so u can go in after disney.

we'll just have to see how things go and well if i don't get in it wont worry me to much its my mate i'm more worried about. was taking to him last night and hes booked an apiontment at the armed forces careers office to talk to them about the royal military police (red caps) and i've offered to go with him so we will just have to see what comes out of that

    anyway thanks again
