So I want to get anyones opinion who may be working there now, on what it's like to work only in Merch, or only Attractions. I worked there from March 2004-March 2005 in Merchandise AND Attractions. I liked it that way because you got to work a mixture of everything basically. From speeches, to ringing guests purchases in, to kidcot, to having fun in the rain when hardly anyone was there on a rainy night out on cart! Anyone have any differences or comments how things have changed? I've learned that the managers are also directed toward one position only. That sucks!! I'm considering going back down again, and getting my green card so I can stay and work down there permanently! Anyway, let me know what ya think! Jacqueline
Hey Jacqueline!!!! How's it going?!? Personally I hated it! I took merch after the split and I hardly ever got to see the attraction people. It sucked even more after they moved Kidcot down to the attraction exit because the post DIED! And try giving directions there 50 times a day because that's the only way people find it! And our bumps went between the post and the cart and that was it. It was soooo predictable. I missed being randomly bumped down to the cave. I spent half my tasks down there anyway though !
is it just Canada that they split Merch and Attractions ?? or did they do it with all the other pavilions too? Norway..Mexico etc.
I didn't really like Merch. I found the Boutique SOOOO slow (but this was back when it sold only Anne of Green Gables, leather masks, pewter, and Linda Edgington)...and it's costume SUCKED!!! Working in the regular store was okay, but I'm not good with math so I hated counting change back to people. Working the cart was awesome! BUT, I was hired mainly as an Attractions hostess, so I didn't have to do Merch all that often. I preferred the variety of Attractions, personally - the movie was cool when it was really hot because I like the air conditioning...and then there was Kidcot, and Pavillion Greeter, and working Off Kilter shows, and fireworks Security. We also got to do special events, like New Years Eve security!!! To me, Attractions had enough variety in it that I didn't feel the need to be crosstrained in Merch. BUT if I had been hired as primarily Merch, I think I would have been disappointed. Of course, that's just me and my taste...and that's how things worked back in my day...
working Kidcot sounds like it would be fun. and the circle vision would be cool too I bet. In my phone interview she asked if I would prefer F&B or Merch, she didn't even mention attractions...thats kinds wierd?
Hey Jacqueline!! How are you these days? How were your last few months? I was in both my whole year, but in picked my way outta attractions in the line picks, so I was mainly merch. The worst part of being in the attraction was that most of the time you were down there alone. At least now I think you always have a greeter, which would make it soooo much more fun. I loved being down there with someone else, but HATED it alone. Felt like being on another planet really!!! Being bumped from post to cart and back would drive me nuts. Thank goodness for all the options while I was there...although I did complain about GLOW ALL the time!!! And who really liked the Booty??? And there was always the scream you'd hear when you were working in the post which meant that someone signed in and got the attraction...ahh good memories!!! I'm going back to visit in 2 weeks and I'm wicked excited. I'd love to get back down there for good too!!! Good luck! Shan
Well Booty got shut in January and all of a sudden we missed it, especially after Kidcot moved downstairs and made the post chaotic. The Booty stuff looks ugly in there so no one buys it, although the decoupage was beyond help anyway. I HATED Glow though. It never worked. They took it away sometime in the spring and gave it to Towers and I sang Hallelujah then it came back over the summer but you don't have to do the pouch anymore. Balancing that at the end of the night was always a gongshow! That's awesome that you're going back down. You'll notice a few changes for sure. And oddly enough, the current Cart Tart got put in Attraction so she's never out there anymore!
Hey Shannon, Things are going pretty good. I'm back home here in Ontario, and often going through TO to go to Peterborough to visit my sister. I'm working at Zehrs as a Front End Supervisor and Cash Office Clerk. I would love to go back with Disney some day though!! I went back in July and only recognized about three people still there that arrived while I was still there. By December it will be all new people. Enjoy your trip down! Are you spending your trip in the Orlando area, or traveling around the whole state of Florida? What are you up to these days? You knew that the Boutique closed right? So much has changed down there. My sister who lives down there actually got a call from Le Cellier requesting her to return for some help since they're short staffed. I contacted Kim to see if they're short staffed in Merch/Attractions......I'm seriously considering going back, and while down there applying for my green card. It was a blast of a year!! Remember Kelly? I see her every now and then. Well, keep in touch! Good to hear from you! Hi to you to Brandy if you're reading this.......I hope you're keeping well too!! I notice you're on here every so often as well. Take care guys!! Jacqueline
OMG so merch and attractions split??!! i CANT believe that. I guess it has been quite a while since I have posted and looked up this site... I am having the winter blahs and would love to be back down in FL right now. I cant imagine the attraction being taken out of the bump, and never mind that the boutique has closed its doors! Although at the time I didnt love going to the attraction, as it was so lonely, and there were many ignorant cdn questions asked by americans, but i do miss doing my speils! And I cant see kidcot being down there, however, there is definitely no room in the post for it! Anyways, I hope everyone is doing well this holiday season! Jacqueline, good to hear that you are doing well!! Good luck in getting your green card. Is Kim still managing down there?? Take care, Tarah
Hey there Tarah!! Thanks for the Christmas greetings!! I'm glad to hear all is well with you as well!! Only about a semester to go, eh? So yeah, attractions and merch. split....how sad is that!! Kim is still managing sometimes, but not nearly as often as she used to. I believe her "main" area now if I'm not mistaken, is the U.K. And Enri, is in Italy, and Jeff is at International Gateway.....I think it's a whole new Canada there now!! I miss being there!! I have a full time job here in Ontario for now, but who knows where life will take one.....still hoping to go back someday!! Anyway, Merry Christmas Tarah, and all my fellow Canadians and friends!! Jacqueline
