People who have done the program before? which is actually better? obviously you get tips with F&B so maybe more money, but which is generally better?
The good thing in Food is, when you change in service after a few month (or weeks? where are the foodler to help me out? ), you will get tips. But, in my opinion, Food is too busy - for me, that's the reason I choosed Merchandise. It's a little bit slower and relaxter, and there are good possibilities to interact with the guests. Don't know how it is in Food in this part of work. But at least I think, it's your own decision, but please think good about it, you will do it for one year, and it's hard to change the position if you want to. It's impossible to say what is better, because everyone has different skills, knowledge and preferences. Lovely Greetings from Florida, Chiyo
I think about the same thing - the benefit to food is once you get in a restaurant, your working inside, and you can make tips once a server - and that boosts your income HUGE! But restaurants are busy... however I do believe you still get lots of time to make magic for guests! Merch is more chill, and definitely not as fast paced! I haven't done it yet (CRP) i'm just applying now myself, although this is what i've heard from everyone i've asked! But def take your time to think it over!
There are also more positions in food because they need more people to operate a restaurant. That said, if Disney really wants you and you choose merch first, they'll still consider you for f&b if all the spots fill up. I had a friend who completed the CRP and he did Merch. I think he said they have 8 people at any given time for merch. Anyway, he said he really enjoyed it and is glad he chose it over f&b, but to each their own!
I don't know what it's like at Disney, having never been there, but I work in a restaurant now. Those people that say you have no time for the custormers (or guests) are only partially right. There are times, when it's really busy and you're a little short staffed, that you don't have time to chat with your guests. But there are other times, when it's a little bit quieter, you're not in any rush, and you can talk to your guests and find out what interesting people they are. It's one of the reasons I love my job, you meet such interesting people all the time. Even when you're busy, you still have to talk to them to at least take their order, and that's long enough to have a (mini) conversation. I don't know as much about merch, but I did work in Dorithy Perkins for 3 months a few years back. I got more bored in DP than I ever have done in the Restaurant. Then again, Disney may be different. But I know what I'm going for.
i worked in a bar/restaurant and it went through busy and not so busy stages .. when it wernt busy it was wel boring but i guess it wood never be not busy in disney lol ;D
Think in Disney whatever job you do will be busy! There's hundreds of guests everyday so it'd be pretty constant! Dont know what I'd prefer though, have worked restaurant/bars and in merch and dont really prefer one over the other. I'd do anything if I was working in Disney though
Yeah me too honestly I just want to be there ... I currently work in fast food and it is busy but I mean it does keep me busy during my shift. I don't mind the demand of working around food so I am putting food as choice 1 just because I know there are more possitions available from what I have heard.
I will be re-applying, again! for F&B, Arg!!!! Oh well, u guys seem cool tho so hopefully this time will go swimmingly! LOL!
hope im on that cool list too lol when you gettin yourself back on skype anyway jim? you work too much lol but yea as thee are moe places in f&b i would like to do that, good thought as i'd like to do f&b anyway hehe
I'm applying for F&B coz that's what my experience is in. But I'm much happier running about at full pelt like in fast food and waitressing. I really wanted to get an idea what sort of mini-jobs the day working in both entailed so I could make a proper informed decision, but no-one seems to be interested in my thread. I'm spensing 3-4 hours a day polishing cutlery and plates at the moment and I'm so bored, I just want to know if it's alot of that or whether it's totally service & relaying tables. I'm sosososososo excited now. I just want to know whether I got an interview or not.
Sorry about my earlier post. Maybe I should have clarified more. What I meant was that they had 8 people on staff for the merch positions, at least for Canada. On a shift, I believe it was 3 people at the same time. Could be different for different countries, like the UK, for example, have a few more stores, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to have 6-8 people on at the same time.
Im applying for Merch as it where my experince is although I could apply for F&B as I have worked at McDonalds over the summer! ;D
