Does anybody have a clue on if we're supposed to take our lunch to work or if there's like a diner for employees and if so, how much would be the daily expense on food, or if there's time to go home and have lunch and then go back... or simply, how is it we're eating everyday?? Thank you.
There definitely isn't time to go back to your apartment for food. You get 45 minutes for your break if you work more than 6 hrs, if you work less than that you only get 15 minutes even if it covers lunch or dinner. Most people buy food at the canteen but you can also bring in a packed lunch. That is totally up to you. I don't know about in EPCOT but I know at Magic Kingdom's canteen it was very reasonably priced. You can probably get a full meal for between $5 - $10 depending on what you want to buy.
There was a pretty good canteen in the Magic Kingdom and it did have a subway (YUM!!), but i think that if you can your better to take a little lunch from home coz its all pretty unhealthy food, lots of cakes and stuff! I dont know the situation with Epcot but in MK we had a freezer and fridge in our area and microwaves so you should be able to sort something out everyday!!! x
There is a small staff room i think in the UK Pavilion back stage, poss with vending machines and microwaves...but the main epcot canteen with the subwy etc, is on the other side of the park! so it maybe best to bring ure own food, or go and get food before ure shift from the canteen etc. Also you could probs go to France or the other countries to get but thats expensive...theres a macdonalds nearby too lol! but i mean wen i worked at epcot i was a character in "inconspicuous" grey t shirt and blue shorts lol! Id get fish and chips and mcdonalds or a pastry from france lol! but i dnt no if u cud do that wen in costume but im sure u can!! x
If your working in the world showcase at epcot every country has a break room. These are for each country and just have vending machines and bathrooms. Epcot has a big cafeteria that has a subway, pizza place and a reg meal place that does specials like chinese food mondays. No matter where you work the cafe is easy to get to and a good choice, but it cost alot to do every day. I would suggest bringing a lunch every day to save money. As for magic kingdom, and the other parks and disney locations they all have large cafes that you can go to on break. The big thing to remember is to not eat in front of guest, or chew gum. Dont worry disney has it covered.
The McDonald's is closed now, it's turned into Refreshment Port which has like chicken strips and fries. If you bring a change of clothes you can go to any restaurant in the park (you aren't allowed to be seen buying anything in costume, even at your own pavillion). Break rooms have vending machines that have like sandwiches, chips, chocolate, and even frozen dinners. In The Odyssey (Epcot's canteen thing) they have a Subway, a pizza kinda stall, salad bar, ready-made things in a fridge and The Grill, which has a basic menu and they just cook what you want for you. The thing with The Grill, I found when I tried it at MK and EC, is they take FOREVER. When you only have a 45 min break it can cut it close. Most people go to Subway or pick up a slice of pizza. Honestly what I usually do is on my second day off of each week I'll make something, split it up into a couple of tupperwares and bring one every day. It's soooo much cheaper and easier.
Yeah I mean u can get huge sandwiches for a couple dollars from Walmart that you could split into 2 or 3 portions.
I go to the canteen every day and some of the food is well priced. The freshly cooked burgers/ hotdogs or pizza is only about $2-$3. It's the subway i find expensive, a foot long sub costs me about $8. I do need to start taking my own food to starting saving money
Thanks everyone it's been a huge help and I think I'll definately take something from home to save money. Congratulations to the ones going to the UK Pavilion, I see it's starting very soon. I guess we'll meet over there in april.
if i'm working a short shift 6/7 hours i won't bother buying lunch or taking any with me, i usually survive until i get home. I find the canteen at epcot quite expensive so have taken to bringing my own sandwiches/salad/whatever with me to work.
I'm used to making my own meals and take them to work, so i'll just keep doing that in Epcot. There's many things you can do quickly that taste great if you are a little creative.
Thanks for this information Kody, you are a life saver I am from Norway, and been to Florida seven times. From experience i know for a fact that "healthy" food is hard to come by, mostly because of the portion sizes and the lack of whoal grain. My plan is to find som rye flour and make my own homemade ryebread (yumyum) and bring it to work. In other words: follow the typical Norwegian tradition of bringing food to work
I know walmart sells ryebread. Not as good as the European stuff but not too bad. Healthy food isn't too hard to find, you just have to know where to look. I will probs just buy the basics and assemble sandwichs and salads myself.
