I'm taking suitcases but it's gonna be insanely hard to pack up everything I'm going to need for a year!!!
Try getting some massive suitcases? Boxes I'd be worried about breaking or things inside getting damaged.

  3. Well they'll need to be airline regulation, so if you're thinking about boxes remember that. Also remember you'll have to cart those from the airport to the van that picks you up, to your apartment. Something with wheels would work better I think.
I've got 2 huge suitcases, weighing in at 48lbs and 66lbs, 50lbs is the limit but for 51-70lbs it's only $25USD extra with my airline (Alaska) so I'm just going to pay it. It costs about $25 to ship those things anyways so I may as well bring them with me.

me i've two big luggages but i don't think i'll take lot of clothes from here coz in florida we'll buy a lot and when we'll come back our country what will they do with clothes we can't take in the luggages????

I know that lot of people buy lot of clothes before florida, but it's better to buy directly in florida

Y'know, you have to wonder why it took mankind so long to put wheels on suitcases...

How did they not become commonplace until the last few years? How the heck did that work?

The first thing i worked out when i booked my flights was how much luggage i could take/bring back :D Plus work out how mch it would be if i went over ($25!).

Anyway i'd take suitcases, just get the really really massive ones that you could fit in - if you wanted to, not that you would but anyway.

If your going for the year and people are visiting you, you can always get them to take stuff home with them or send parcels so that you dont have to much stuff when its all over.

I'm an extremely light packer though and when i say light i mean light. On the way back however i can see me having a few little problems.

Or you could get a couple of Hockey Equipment bags. They hold more than suitcases, don't have a frame (so you can sorta fold them up for storage), and some of the newer ones have wheels.

You can fit more into a large one of those then you can think (I'm pretty sure smaller people can fit in one.

DEFINATLY BIG ENOUGH FOR ME.... i used it for taking a years worth of stuff traveling before...ended up not even needing half the stuff and i had to keep chucking stuff out as i bought....

O.K. it was a squeeze and will be a squeeze but i will be strict with myself!!!!!

Here for a image of what I was thinking...

The only possible downside to these would be they are probably a lot harder to lock than a suitcase, but I'm pretty sure you'ld be able to fit a lot more in. I'd reccomend checking them out if you're still suitcase shopping. (Or at least a similar model to this). Just make sure you don't get a JR one because thats made for Kid size equipment... you want the SR (or Senior model).

Ana - ah cool. Where did you go travelling?

Jorden - They look good but i dont think they sell anything as big as those in the UK. They sell football equipment bags but i wont trust them not to get ripped on the conveyer belt as they made of this thin material.

I'm going to lock mine with this special type of lock which the people who check the bags can open because they have a master key. I just hope on the way back they are able to close it again :)

Yeah I kinda figured they'd be a rarity in the UK lol, it's my pretty basic understanding hockey's a rarity over there. I'm hoping it's a solution for the topic creator though being as their msg board name is CANADIAN lol.

I was going to get one for me (my old hockey one is quite beat up), but then we got new suitcases that I guess I'm going to use... just means I'll have to take less with me down there, which isn't that bad, it's not like I have a huge wardrobe or anything.

I'm not sure if this helps anyone out but ... when my family went to Diseny World on Vacation we brought 2 extra suit cases so we'd have room to bring stuff back. Pack a smaller suit case with stuff, then put it inside a biger one ... fill in the space around the smaller one if you have to. Then when you go down you have only one suitcase and two on the way back (or 2 and 4 etc) saves you some money for having to pay for extra luggage on the way down and on the way home you have luggage for all that extra stuff and you didn't have to pay alot for it since you bought it at home instead of the middle of tourist country.

Jorden - Yeah ice hockey (i'm guessing your talking about ice hockey) is pretty rare over here but we do have a league and i think my cousin plays, i think. Not sure i havent seen him in ages.

Mara - Hey, yup that is what i'm going to do if it fits. My dad keeps reminding me that i'm going to have to carry these things when i get home cause he aint going to help - meany! I'm going to *try* and keep my weight down by sending parcels home but even if i do it doesnt cost that much.

I'm just worried that when i get back to the UK they are going to stop me and look at all my stuff and charge me extra taxes or something cause your only ment to bring so much stuff back with you to a certain value (cant remember what it is). Saying that i have never seen anyone stopped in the airport before. Also i've been over the weight before as well and no ones ever charged me.

i *hope* its for holidays only. I took a look on the site but i got bored so moved onto something else. I'll check it again before i go.

I've already been told that the suitcases i have at the moment are big enough (i'm doubtful) plus i'd hate to see the problems getting my huge suitcase and a massive hockey bag in the back of the car - i'm going to have problems as it is :D

I'm remember something about them only being able to tax you for the stuff with price tags on... otherwise how will they know if you bought it there?

You can get hockey equipment bags from the UK you just have to know where to get them from, depends whereabouts you live as to what they have. A puck stop or big enough ice centres should have them.
Hockey is wicked and I support my local teams, I love it!!
