So I'm going on my very first trip to england. I'm going to London for a weekend. Does anyone have any good ideas on what to do while I'm there?
i would recommend you : Globe theatre, the tower, oxford street (harrods), speakers corner and the "chiquito" on leisester square , i think it was called--> great mexican restaurant and bar
Yup there's Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and loads of old government buildings which are pretty to look at. There is meant to be a big Disney Store there but I've not been there but it is my plan to do so when I go for my Visa interview.
That's good! I need a good dose of Disney soon And I'm going with a friend who also worked at Disney, so she'll probably want to go there too
I just finished working at that Disney store. Lovely place. Right across the road from Bond street station. Try not to go on a weekend if you can help it. It gets crazy! I personally don't like Chiquitos, it's just a chain store with quite expensive food. I prefer to head into Soho. Balans being a personal favourite! Lovely atmosphere with great food and it's reasonably priced. Also, head to Patisserie Valerie, also in Soho. Great cake! Particularly the strawberry gateaux. Catch a show if you can. Current London favourite is Hairspray. Do the day seats! Get there before 10 and get tickets for £25 front row. If you go on a Saturday you might need to queue from about 7am... some of those Micheal Ball fans are dedicated! Also, if you like walking.... steer clear of the tubes. It's amazing how close together everything is and it's a much better view above ground. Just take a few hours to explore, walk down the Thames, round parliament and back into town past the palace... easy! I love London. Ha.
Billy Elliott the Musical is AMAZING!!! But you have to understand about the miners strike to get the history behind it... however the dancing and singing just blew me away, I had to see it twice!! All the other places that the other guys mentioned, plus try St James' Park as a cool place to just sit and people watch..have a picnic or summat! On the shopping front - Oxford Street, Regents Street and Harrods (at Knightsbridge). And you HAVE to go to the Primark on Oxford Street if you want cheap clothes!! (By marble arch). And it's lovely to go for a walk down on the South Bank, go on the London Eye if you can - great views over London on a good weather day!! ;D
Interesting fact about jamie bell (the guy who played billy elliot in the origional film) I've done comps against him lol. Don't remember him much like. I've heard that the riot officers do a ballet during the riot scene. I bet that wud be reli effective like. The Lion King is also a good one : ... For obvious reasons
LOL, Lion King is brilliant. Fact. I haven't actually seen the musical, but the Festival of the Lion King was amazing!! And yes the riot officers have a big dancing/singing number called Solidarity and that's fantastic.
Wicked is awesome too Actually, pretty much any of the musicals are fab! It's worth seeing one just because it's London
So many suggestions I can't wait to go! I know I have to go to that Harry Potter train station with platform 9 3/4 ;D
Hamleys! (on Regent Street south from Oxford Circus) and Carnaby St, Kingly Court and Liberty's for shopping - which are all behind Hamleys quite close together. Hamleys. If you like Japanese food - there's 2 great little places on Kingly Street which is the road lit behind Hamleys - Ramen Seto and Donzoko. Just had to let you knw those! Yummy! I love that area! If you are here for a weekend, I can guarantee absolute maygem on Oxford Street. Oxford Street is nice to see but shopping there isn't much special personally. Do go to the Disney store opposite bond street tube station. Selfridges is a bit of an icon so maybe there. Apart from that, it's just your normal high street stores and the department stores which are all pretty similar to any other department store in the world. Libertys is much nicer! Primark on Ox St is EVIL. EVIL. EVIL. Friday morning is ok to go but weekend, NO CHANCE. You will totally waste time all your time there. If you *have* to go to a primark, go to a different one. The Hammersmith one is big too and not *quite* as busy. Just... why you would come to London for a weekend and go to Primark is totally beyond me! Sorry! The only place that is *maybe* ok to queue for, is the Haagen Dazs cafe on Leicester Square genius. There will be a queue but... it's usually worth it for the hot chocolate with cookies and brownie and ice cream IN it *ahhhhhhhh* Go to Chinatown. Go to See Woo! (for like 5 seconds then get out again! If you llike chinese food, eat somewhere kinda dodgy looking which is full of chinese people - it will probably be v yummy! Walk around Soho just to say you've been there. If you go into any little funky looking clothes shops in Soho... Don't. Look. Down. Stairs! Do however, go into Harmony (not only in Soho) and giggle like a small girl at everything And come visit me at work Ormonde Jayne, The Royal Arcade, Old Bond Street. Old Bond Street is an experience. Especially if, like me, it's the nearest you'll ever get to Chanel, Tiffanys, Gucci etc. Don't buy chocolates at Charbonnel and Walker (but do turn left there into the royal arcade!), do buy chocolate at Maison du Chocolat which is back on the main road up to Piccadilly - save up for it though it's expensive :S And yep, like everyone has said, definately see a musical - Avenue Q is hilarious and you can get really cheap tickets now. WWRY also fabby if you like Queen even if you don't, you will by the end hehe. Literally, anything wil be good! Opera - not sure when you're coming but if you are vaguely interested and can find any tickets for pretty much anything at the Royal Opera House, go! At Covent Garden hang around for a little bit and you will probably get a good show either singing or magic, almost anything you might come across there! Go to Camden! (with a burly looking friend) and Shoreditch! There's LOTS to do in London so you must come back again! Sorry I have probably been of zero helpfulness just tweittering about London...! My main advice would be to stay clear of Oxford Street as much as possible. DO what you want to do there and then go see something more interesting and less crowded. If you need a tour guide let me know haha... Trocedero centre is poo by the way. xx
LOL I do agree... I went on a Tuesday afternoon after my Disney interview so it wasn't too bad! But I think the only reason I was in awe of the size of it was because Im from Bristol where we have the most rubbishly sized Primark considering its quite a big city!! Oh and totally go to Camden!! It's wicked! ;D
Exiting ;D I am going in the weekend though... Friday to sunday, april 4th - 6th. And I'm meeting with two of my norwegian Disney friends over there too
I'm just back from London yesterday. I went for my interview to become a cast member. Its was great, make sure you take in teh london eye and buckingham palace. I went to see the Lion King too..Best show ever!
'Wicked' at Apollo Victoria is awesome. Also its just walking distnace from Buckingham Palace and a bit further from Enbankment (Houses of Parliament and Big Ben). Seriously go see 'Wicked' day tickets front row only £25 bargain
It is I love that show (and you'll get to see Kerry Ellis as Elphaba before she finishes in the summer). Those day seats require early queuing though. We went last September for the second time, out of school holidays and during the week, and people had been queuing from 6am! Don't worry though, we got really good matinee stall seats for £30 each (row X, which to be honest isn't as far back as you think it is) and they said we could move forward if we wanted to as there were loads of spare seats.
Not a huge fan of wicked since Dianne joined... *shudders*. It seems to have lost it's spark somewhat. And a 6am queue is nothing. You now have to camp for Saturday shows. Some people get there as early as 11am Friday! Hi Kelly! Don't know if you remember me but we argued this one time on WoO... so long ago, lol.
