Congratulations! Everyone I knew who was a lifeguard loved it, especially if you get a water park. From what I hear they got quite good hours because the water parks shut early.

  3. Hi :)
I'm *hopefully* going down for the summer program and I think I might apply for guarding. Do you work as a lifeguard now?

Mhairi worked as a guard last year I think...

    Hi guys,

I did lifeguarding when I was there. It was pretty awesome but like most things there are some not go good things as well.

You start training pretty much straight away over at Mickeys retreat, as soon as you get to Florida. Most other people when I was there had days off, so annoying!! With the jet lag and it being bleeding HOT and sunny was quite draining.

Not all of you will get in a water park, most will be in the resorts and the hours I'll tell you now are killer. Its no walk in the park, but I loved every second of it.

Just remember to take plenty of HIGH factor sunscreen, I suggest this stuff called P20, you apply it in the morning and you don't need to reapply it for the rest of the day. Its so much easier than having to lug sun screen around with you, it saved my life. Just remember to apply it 1 hour before you go out in the sun.
Once your skin gets used to the sun you can start lowering the factor, by the end of the program I was only using factor 8 on my face. You do get a wicked tan, just beware of the swimming costume lines, I still have faint ones on my back and its been 2 years, quite funny really, Disney sure did leave its mark!!!!

The best advice I can give really is to have fun, drink plenty of water, not coke or anything like that it dehydrates you, and make sure you eat before you go to work because it can be at least 5 hrs until you get a break again at work.

If anyone has any questions please ask and i'll do my best to answer them.

Good luck and remember your e-stop in the morning opening!!!!!

    A xxxxxx
