Hey guys: I was wondering if any of you can tell me about the different shifts in the Canadian Pavillion, especially merch vs f/b since I'm still undecided which I would rather do! How long are they generally? What are the different shifts? What is the latest one should expect to work assuming Epcot closes/starts Illuminations at 9.00? Thanks! Jen
Hi Jen! I was in Merch so I can tell you about those shifts! In Merch, you work either 5 days with 2 off, or 4 days with 3 off...it goes on senority. If you are on 5/2, then your shift lengths will mostly be between 6-8 hours. You could occasionally get longer ones, but then you make over time for anything over the 8 hours...which is how you make your "big" merchie bucks. If you are 4/3, then you work either 8-10 hour shifts. It sounds long, and yes, it is pretty much open to close, but it goes surprisingly fast if breaks run smoothly. When I was there ('til last August) the earliest you worked was 10am. That was the opening shift and there was usually two of you. Normally, shifts started at 10:30. This left time for the morning meeting and to have the doors open for 11. If you are working a 10 hour shift, your breaks usually fall around 12-1 (30 mins.), 3-4 (1 hour), 7 (15 mins). They try to keep it 3 hours or so between breaks. The latest you would normally work is 10pm. That's the closing shift and there was normally two of you. Normally, you are done at 9:30. There are shifts that fall in between all of these hours. You can request late shifts or early shifts on days that you need to. You can also try to get ER's (early release)...ER's are the BEST! My typical shifts were 10:30-9:30, so I'd have to catch the bus around 9:30ish and would get home around 10-1015, if I did the run for the bus. Hope this covered it...any more questions, let me know!
