So the UK interviews are less than a week away... Just wondering if any current cast members or those waiting to fly out have any last minute tips for the interviews? I know any information will help us prepare (more than we have already!!). Thanks! x
I had a word with the big boss at my current job today, i gonna have a one to one with him sometime this week n he's gonna go through interview tips with me and customer service and hospitality tips so any info i get i will happily pass on xxx
Well, it's kinda hard. Firstly, I'd say chat to everyone else there because it'll naturally make you feel more relaxed and get you fired up about disney. Also, at ours the recruiters we stood at the back of the room as we walked in. A nice "good morning" will help them notice you. Secondly, I'd say be yourself but sell yourself. For all questions, give an example of what you have done or how you've achieved something. Then they know you'll be right. Also, be truthful in your answers; why do you want to work at disney, not what you think they want to hear. For example- I said that it was for the cultural programme itself as I did a geography degree and enjoy interacting with people from diff countries. Other people said, for the disney magic. I don't think there's a right thing to say here...so think of something original. If the interviews are as previous they will be conducted in pairs. I had a short chat outside with the girl I was interviewed with and we did the whole "what do you do, why disney etc" and our answers were pretty different- this meant we knew we wouldn't be repeating what each other said, but also we could interact by saying- oh yeah, I think the same- but then add something additional to that. Having an interesting fact about your hometown or something interesting about yourself is good for the cultural questions- I mentioned the fact that I lived in the north and south and that they are quite different. Finally, I'd say just to enjoy it. The people you meet could be who you spend the next year with. Both the disney recruiters and yummy people are really friendly too. Obviously you'll be nervous but don't let it put you off! Oooh, and a final final thing, have your documents organised so you don't have to panic because your passport has fallen into the depths of you bag!! Good luck, and I'm sure you'll do great! x x x
Advice I could give you from my experience would be, don't be scared to get involved in the presentation before the interviews, if they ask a question and you know the answer then answer it!!! Think about what experience you have and what you can bring to Disney, especially what kind of culture you can bring from your home town, so find out some random/interesting facts about where you come from. Also, in the interview, you will go in in two's, so when the other person is answering a question, look interested, pay attention and try not to talk over them. Lastly, enjoy it, don't be nervous and be yourself. I wish you all the luck in the world xxx
These are some great tips guys! Really appreciate it I can't believe that by this time next week we'll have all had our interviews!!! Wooop! A part of me is insanely excited, and the other part is a nervous wreck. Hopefully all us CRP hopefuls will be joining you guys out there from Feb next year ;D Bring it on!!!
Yeah, I feel exactly the same, Jen. Thanks for the tips, Kat and Anna. Really helpful. My biggest concern is, that if the other applicant answers a question, and I completely agree with it, and there's no need for any other info - I hope that doesn't happen.
If you do agree that wont be held against you, just say something like "i agree with blahblah about these points additionally i think..." & im sure you will have a couple of other points you maybe able to make. Im hoping the person I interview is nice, I hoping for someone I can bounce off with, so we enhance each other instead of bringing each other down! I know its pretty cutthroat to get a job but Disney are looking for people not just about their experience etc...
These are really helpful tips guys, thanks!! I've just had an additional bout on nerves now lol.. Last year we weren't interviewed together, it was just that there were 2 interviewers and 2 interviewees in the same room (but on opposite sides of the room) so interviews were on a 1-1 basis. I was expecting them to be in pairs before that.. just presumed it would be the same this year! So thanks for the heads up!!
I suppose... I mean, I have tried to dig out as much examples as possible, of things happening in work, you know, to answer situational questions etc. Maybe it depends on the amount of applicants? I dunno. I don't really mind, either way. Like Amy said, as long as you can bounce off the other person, and vise versa.
I dont think we will know until we get there if its 2 of us with 1 interviewer or 1 on 1, either way I'm sure the Disney reps will be awesome! I'm like that keep remembering random things I've done or dealt with at work...Will have to remember them for next week to use as examples. This time next week it will all be over! Waiting all over again! EEK ;D
I know... I can't believe it. People are already asking me when I'm going to hear back. I wish I didn't tell so many people, but I've been sooo excited, I just blurt it out. Lol, I've been going out of my way for customers all day - I mean, I am usually helpful, but I've been particularly helpful today, to get some fresh examples.
Thanks so much everyone! I was having a little panic to myself all day, but youve put me at ease... I'm just too excited and the process takes so long! I'll be so gutted if its an anticlimax! hehe. Never mind, there will always be next season!! Anyone know rougly how many jobs there are?
There's been speculation, I think someone said once about 60-80 but I really can't be sure. There's more jobs in f&b then retail that's for sure. Does anyone know how many people do the HRC section? I know a bit about it but heard of noone actually having the job. Best I can say is on Friday I plan on asking that question! Hopefully there will be enough for us all
I think when I asked they said it was 5 people do HRC? not many. I put that as first choice but got merch which I think I want to do more now anyway! Estimate sounds roughly right...although I'd guess it's about 50% of interviewees get to go? Quite a lot of people get offers but have to turn them down due to whatever reasons like jobs, not for them etc! x x x
I've always heard that the whole pavilion is staffed by about 60-80 people. And as they hire twice a year, there'll be half as many places available to us. This obviously varies quite a lot, due to different years being busier or quieter (that damn recession!), or more/fewer people getting termed/self-terming. That's pretty much why there's never a set number or recruits.
Yeah after I wrote that & logged off I remembered thats the number of staff apparently per year. I'd guess there are about 30-40 jobs, we're going for then depending upon current staffing levels. A guess is all that is, on Friday hopefully they will clarify numbers although i'm sure even if they had 100 jobs for us it wouldn't settle my hum of nerves
when we were there in my arrival group there was 1 merch, 2 on the chef programme (think thats defunct now) and 9 f&b. we arrived end of august then another arrival on sept 11 was about the same but with more merchies i think maybe 3/4. then 2 weeks later there was another arrival group with samew sort of amount. they had at least one arrival group a month but not always the same amount of people. i personally wouldnt do hrc - your not actually working for disney your for a particpant so you dont get the same benefits and your rent is more!
I wouldn't worry too much about numbers- pretty much similar to what pinkspider said- those kinda numbers, we got told by the disney people at our interview "if we like you we will try and find a place for you", and this was pretty much true for our set of interviews as I think nearly everyone has made it off the waitlist x x
Eeeep! I actually couldn't sleep last night I was so excited! I've prepared lots of answers in my head for any questions... now I hope I just dont appear too over prepared! I'm so looking forward to meeting everyone, I think its going to be fun! Also looking forward to meeting all of you current CMs in Florida (either at work or when I visit on holiday... depending on how the interview goes!!) Thanks to everyone who's made a suggestion! x
Don't worry. You can never be too over prepared. I've been doing exactly the same thing. I'll probably forget most it by the time of the interview.
