Hello everyone! I just couldn't resist to start my own topic! but I wanted to be culturally useful ,because this is really something that many of us we don't know! At least I don’t call me stupid but here it is the question ...
What's the proper way to say hi between a boy and a girl in your home country?
Here is how we do in Mexico between young people for example :

    First Meet:
Boy and Girl : shake hands at the same time they kiss each other in the cheek
Boy and Boy : shake hands only and maybe a little MACHO HUG
    Long or medium time friendship:
Boy and Girl : KISS IN THE LIPS .... lol ! just kidding ! only kiss in the cheek and maybe a little hug if they are close friends
Boy and Boy : shake hands hard and another MACHO HUG
    Saying hi DRUNK! :
Boy drunk saying hi to a sober girl : kiss in the cheek little hugs and saying "You are so gorgeous!!!"
Drunk girl saying hi to a sober boy : kiss in the cheek and saying out loud "I'm not drunk! trust me!!" and the boy usually helps her to remain on foot
Both DRUNK : No kiss ,no hand shake ,only placing hands on their shoulders and drinking ,drunken dancing ,and singing too perhaps

PLEASE TELL THE WAY YOU SAY HI IN YOUR COUNTRY OR THE WAY YOU DO SAY HI !!

    Long or medium time friendship:
    Boy and Girl: hug- defo
Girls and girl: lil kiss sometimes, on the lips...but rather unusual around my hometown
Boy and Boy : shake hands hard and another MACHO HUG

    Saying hi DRUNK! :
Boy drunk saying hi to a sober girl : kiss in the cheek little hugs and saying "You are so gorgeous!!!"

Erick, now i kno why you asked those words! lol

okay, here in Hong Kong... those typical chinese would...

    First Meet:
Boy and Girl: usually just say hi and smile at each other (lol, yea chinese ppl are pretty shy at least most of them)
Boy and Boy: shake hands only and say hi
Girl and Girl: smile at each other and say hi

    Long or medium time friendship:
Boy and Girl: just say hi or maybe a little hug
Boy and Boy: just say hi or maybe a little playful fight
Girl and Girl: just say hi or maybe a hug

    Saying hi DRUNK!:
Boy drunk saying hi to a sober girl: saying hi out loud, maybe a little hug and say "want some drinks?" (lol.. maybe not true, but thats what i noticed sometimes in bars)
Drunk girl saying hi to a sober boy: hug the sober guy and ask""if she's pretty and say she's not drunk... ask if he wanna sit down and drink together"... lol oh well..  ::)
Both DRUNK: it depends how drunk they are... maybe placing hands on each other's shoulder.. hugging.. after all pass out together! LOL...

as i noticed, chinese people usually dont hug that much and wont kiss each other when they meet each other, they usually just give ya a smile and a warm handshake...  ;)

    hope these help!  ;D

    Long or medium friendship:
Boy and girl: say hi, kinda hug/proper hug n kiss on cheek

For the Maritime provinces in Canada (think extreme east coast)... (cue homesickness setting in :()

    First meet:
Boy and Girl: say hey/hi/hello, maybe either wave or shake hands depending on how outgoing the ppl are
Boy and boy: see above, although slightly more likely to shake hands
Girl and girl: see first example, the least likely duo to shake hands although I come from a business background so it's kind of common.

    Long or medium friendship:
Boy and girl: say hi, maybe a hug
Boy and boy: some kind of manly grunt and an offer of beer ;)
girl and girl: hug if haven't seen each other in awhile, otherwise just a hey

    Saying hi drunk:
drunk boy, sober girl: hey, maybe handshake, maybe kiss on the cheek, offer of a drink if you are in the country or talking to a country boy
drunk girl, sober boy: handshake, perhaps? And instant sizing each other up. (okay - maybe I just like to shake hands.)
both drunk: "Hey" followed by flirting if both are single (although not always necessary  ), and are, in some form, attractive.

PEIers are hicks. We don't kiss. Except sometimes older professional men will kiss younger female colleagues a la Quebec kiss. But it would have a handshake first. When I worked in Quebec I was sometime caught off guard by coworkers kissing me on the cheek and ended up nailing in the lips... Hoo boy.

~ Jen, of the Uptight PEI Culture (but you can still kiss me ;) )

    yeah...

At least we Latins are used to more contact... as Erick said, we use to kiss girls on cheek when we first meet, a macho guy for guys... etc...

lol i like this topic! In the UK we have the traidtional manly hand shake for first meetin between 2 guys, but it's slightly softer and more genlte, kinda like a hold wen u first meet a girl.

apart from that i reckon it's all good!

Hey! It's good to hear that some of you liked the topic! keep posting! because I don't want to screw up and try to kiss a girl in the cheek to say hi and that I make her feel unconfrotable or weird or something!! Ok? so keep posting !
This far or the topic I can say there is no problem with kissing in the cheek to say hi the first meet with german girls, british girls, and canadian girls! with chinese girls maybe but not with Nichol! jeje

Well POST POST POST !! but not in the german sence of CHEERS !!
