Hello everyone I am a 21 year old girl from Canada and this has been something I have wanted to do for so long. I am a professional street painter (Chalk artist) at the moment. Some might know my name, if your fans of The Lion King. I just sent my application in this morning. I know it will be hard to get in. I mean Canada is huge. But I think I will feel better if I can hear from people here at all stages. I have a few questions that maybe you guys can answer based on your experiences. For those that got the phone interview, how long was it after you sent yours in that you got the e-mail about that. (So I can stop driving myself crazy and checking my e-mail. I know I would not get it today but I am sure many of you know excitement and anticipation takes over, so if I know I might feel more relaxed.) Does anyone have any turn down stories? Were you turned down? Or a friend? Did you re-apply again later or once you were turned down that was it? Also is there anyone out there with not a whole lot of job experience in the last 7 years? Do you think that would effect anything? (I have worked at a very small theme park in my city, and right now I am more self employed I go to peoples events and do chalk art for them and then I am done. I worked a lot more when I was younger though, before those 7 years and have good contacts that way.) Anyway just wondering those things and maybe meet some people that might end up being at the interview that hopefully I can manage to be invited to.
Hi Timitu! Congrats on applying! I don't have answers to all of your questions, but I can give you an idea on some of them, based on my own experiences. I applied in late january/early february, and didn't get my phone interview until the end of february, though I was playing phone tag with Cast-a-way for a while, as I was on vacation at the time that they originally called. So in general I would say that cast-a-way calls about 2 months (give or take a week?) before the interviews take place...and considering the last interviews were in april...I would say they will begin calling soon, because the next set of interviews should be in the fall. But if you don't feel like waiting too long, I would give Cast-a-way a call (also just to check that they got your application etc) they are pretty easy-going over there...and I would think that they would have no problem giving you your interview then and there...it also shows your enthusiasm to become a part of the program... As for experience, I don't have much to do with customer service (i.e. summer camp, group homes, childcare etc) , but from what I can gather they are looking at personality more than anything...So just show enthusiasm...and it doesn't hurt to smile during your phone interview...believe it or not, it makes a big difference even though they can't see you! As for rejections...I can't really tell you anything as everyone that I met during the interview (some right away, some waitlisted) have been given positions, including myself (CRP, December 07)...so all I can say is if you'd really like to go...then you will probably get to go, it just depends on how long you may have to wait! Good luck in the whole process, it is alot of waiting around, but it is definetly worth it in the end! Let us know how everything goes for you!
Thank you very much lululemon. Ya I am excited and one thing I have is a lot of enthusiasm for this whole thing. For Disney world itself and for working there. I have a feeling if I can make it to the actual interview part that I will make it. I am really good at people skills. I have been doing public speaking since I was 10 years old so I feel much more comfortable in person in all interviews then phone ones but I will have to keep myself relaxed. I have to take a friend of mine to surgery tomorrow and look after them and their dog when they get back as well as go to a meeting. So I will probably try giving them a call if I have not heard from them by the end of the week. Like you said just to make sure there is no problems with stuff atleast. If they aren't to busy maybe I might get an interview or atleast it shows I am really enthusiastic about the job. Anyway congrats with yours. Perhaps we will end up running onto eachother there sometime. And I will be sure to keep everyone posted here. Interviews are other side of Canada from me in the fall but I would enjoy going out there for them. My mom loves out west so she told me she wants to come if I get invited to them out there.
Hey there! I checked with Cast A Way, and their next interviews are in Calgary and Vancouver in October and were asking for resumes to be sent in during September. They will be having interview in Toronto, Montreal and Halifax in March of 2008. I would definitely call them and make sure they have recieved your resume properly. I am also applying, Im sending in my resumer next month. I am going to actually mail it because last spring the email did not work properly and they did not recieve my resume properly. I have applied twice before. In 2006 I had a phone interview but i turned it down because I was promoted at work and didn't want to leave right away. I applied this past spring, messed up the email, and when I finally sent it properly, but they were out of interview spaces. Hopefully the third time is a charm!
Ya I am excited about going over to Calgary or Vancouver. I have some family that wants to go with me so I am hoping they wont just get me to wait till the Spring. I can stay working here till the snow falls then I need to get a different job. I am hoping to know more by then so I know what I should do when that point comes. I will defiantly call them this week and see. Just to make sure they have my résumé and such. That way if there is a problem it can be fixed as soon as possible. Oh that would be tough. I am lucky right now with that cause I am self employed and no matter what when the snow comes jobs will cut right down. So I am hoping to jump in during that time so I don't have many jobs going on. Hopefully this third time is a charm for you and you get in this time around.
Hi Timitu! Hmm...I applied in..the summer of 2004. I waited about a week before I phoned cast-a-way to verify that they recieved my resume and then I think about a week later I got a call from Eric there, who did my phone interview. The phone interview basically consisted of getting a feel for what my personailty was like, and kinda testing me to see what I liked about Canada andmy local area. IF you have any travel books about Canada on hand Id totally reccomend reading them, for any juicy travel info you can toss out there seems to help. I ended up in Calgary that fall for the interview. Id say there was probably about...60 people...and I think it was like 16 openings, plus 2 openings that were for like RIGHT away. (they must have had a few drops outs or something) Anyways the interview was kinda nerve racking for myself, and I didnt get in. But Im thinking about trying it all again this fall, and hopefully I shall be more prepared. They key though I think is definately the positive, smile-till-you-puke, happy attitude, and a good knowledge of your area of canada and WHY people would want to come there. Hope that helps!
okay so i havent had a phone interview w/ them but its what my choir was always told to do whilst singing ( especially during or disney songs... disney dazzel and cruella de vil) people can apparently hear smiles i think it makes you sound happy and personable or something!
Ya I am good with that. I am so excited I would smile. I put my application in and called them, (incase anyone is wondering about an update) and they told me to wait till September cause that is when they are are going to be looking through them. It was great, they were very nice and that helped a lot. Now I just need to keep busy till then. I will be sure to keep people informed. Hope I make it.
