I have heard a LOT about this program. But sadly, I have NO idea what it is? I don't remember reading about it on this site or the Disney site. Can someone tell me what it is?

Another question, I would love to apply for one of the programs, but the wait period is sort of long. What if I applied for say the CR program and didn't pay for my next yr of university, then if I don't get accepted, I would have nowhere to go. Also, what if I find out late in the year that I DO get accepted for the January or February start, but I've already paid for a 2nd semester. Do I drop everything and go to Disney World?

I live in Toronto, Ontario by the way, so maybe some of the Canadians here will know how to answer that. I really want to work at Disney, but I need something to fall back on if I don't succeed.

Thanks in advance for reading and answering this! ^_^

for the CR programme, I'd personally wait to apply in your final year of uni, and then say you wouldn't be able to start until after you'd graduated. I know we could specifiy our earliest possible start dates/ latest possible end dates in the interview, don't know if that's the same for Canada though.

I don't know much about the year-long J1 academic programme, so I'll leave that to someone else. You can do a summer programme inbetween university years, though, if you want to do something before you've graduated :)

    Hey Yuki,

Nice to see some more Torontonians on here...well I am from the hamilton/burlington area...but on a world scale, I'd say we are close enough! I would say stick to the summer programs while you are still in school, I am just about to graduate (from Brock!) and I am having my interview for the year long CR program on thursday! and it would certainly be hard to plan while you are still at school...I think there may be a 6 month program too, so if you would still really like to do it during the year, you can take a semester off (or maybe it can apply to your placement, if you had one?) I don't know much about the school programs to be honest, but the year long should probably wait until you are finished school, or are willing to take a year off! I would say speak to someone at the cast-a-way office (Eric is super nice!) or visit the Disney casting webpage to see what options you have!
Hope this helps you a little bit, maybe I can fill you in more after my interview?

Im doing the J1 Academic Program, but im not really sure what you want to know? Do you want to know costs, how long it lasts for n stuff? Or something else about it?

Just ask me what you want to know and i should be able to help you, there doesn't seem to be anyone on here who's done it before, guess doing a year in disney might have put people off disney i guess! haha..

    Thanks Lululemon and Johny!

I'm MORE than willing to take a year off. but that's only if I can for sure get in. If not, I'll have to stay in school for that year, and I want to make sure I still can.

Good luck with your interview! I applied to Brock! Don't know if they'll accept me though. Yes I'm still in highschool and actually graduated last year....Came back for another year.

Johny, I want to know EVERYTHING about this program. Or at least everything you know? I want to know what kind of program it is, what it provides, all the big cheese.

    Please and thank you ^_^

Now I may be wrong but I don't think they are (as of yet) interviewing Canadians for the J1 program. Last year they were only interviewing for the ICP and the Cultural Rep program. Some of us waitlisted for the CRP were sent down on H2-B visas.

I'm not sure if this has changed but I have yet to see a Canadian on here who has interviewed for, or been accepted on the J1 program.

What I would suggest to you is do the ICP as often as you can (ie. next summer and every 2nd summer while you are in university). Then do the cultural rep program when you're finished University.

Again not sure about the J1 program but I don't believe it is an option in Canada yet.

There is a bit on it on this website..As you've probably guessed, thats the link above ^^

Basically, I am spending a year there, you either do one of two lectures each week, not really 100% on that..

For us its $2500 tuition fees, which is pretty cheap i would say really for a year at university, considering tuition fees in England are now around £3500 i think...

Im doing 6 Months Outdoor Foods, 6 Months Vacation Planner...Basically you've gotta do two different roles while your there on this program..

Unless you decide to do 7 months at Disney and the rest at university..

Two of my roomates that did the ICP last summer are going back and doing the J-1 Academic program. So there are Canadians who are on the program, however I don't think they had to interview for it. Your best bet would be to contact Cast-A-Way, although right now they are really really busy with interviews and such as I have tried to contact them a few times unsuccesfully. But basically they can get you started and see if your school would even allow you to do the program and have the credits count. Although I think you mentioned brock university, if that's the case then you should be fine cause one of my roomates that is going on the J-1 goes to brock. Hope this helps, good luck!
