Working at disney sucks. They work you real hard, and you get pennies. They expect you to do, learn and know everything within your first 2 weeks. All the managers are 2 faced and it's one rule for one person, and another rule for someone else. They have hidden charges for things too when you get there. And you literally sign your life away in the first week with all the papers. It's nowt like it seems. Before you go you can't wait, but after you work there for a year, you really want to go home. I'm glad I finished it 2 years ago!
Okay, you know what, I'm sick of these. You knew what you were going to get paid. They make it clear in the presentation and the documentation you are given. No one forced you to apply and when you did you saw the job descriptions like anyone else and yet you still jumped through several hoops to get a place. Yes it's going to be hard work, of course it is, they're not employing to to play in the parks all day! It's a shame you had a bad experience but disney (unfortunately for you it seems) is very much about your attitude and what you make of it. If you didn't like it when you got there you could have quit and let someone who did want the job replace you, yet from the sounds of it you stayed. These programs aren't there for the money they're there for the experience and the nice addition it makes to a CV, and when you consider the hundreds of good reports to every bad one like yours I can only conclude that it is probabaly more you than them that had the problems. I'm not saying disney is perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but if you don't have anything good (or if not good, at least constructive) to say, don't say anything. In fact, until you get the fucking guts to at the very least sign up to the board you're leaving inflammatory posts to instead of scurrying away with your guest log in, don't say anything.
BLAH These posts make me laugh. Don't get me wrong, everyone has a right to their opinion and all that fun stuff - but seriously now. As Zanitta said, it's not like you weren't aware of the wage situation before you arrived, unless you fell asleep during the presentatin and chose not to read any of the subsequent material you were given. Disney is well known as a company which requires it's staff to work HARD and we just so happen to be near the bottom of the dollar ladder Life goes on - you still gain an amazing experience which not a hell of a lot of other people can claim to have had. Did you expect it to be perfect? :
You finished your contract 2 years ago and hated it... But after such a long time you are still searching in the net and look for pages about the program??? That doesn't make any sense to me. If it was soooo bad you wouldn't care about it anymore. But obviously you do!
Mate its you whos talking rubbish!! You were made fully aware how much money you were going to make and how it does get busy there sometimes. Seems like you went there purely for the job and for some reason chose to ignore all the amazing opportunities open to you other than the work! Seems like you need to lighten up a bit, something that you probably should have done while u were working for disney. You should have sucked up the fact that u had to work hard and taken a look around at where u were!! Maybe you could have gone out!! Joined a monday night drinking team?! I dunno.... ummmmmm had some fun?!?! 8)
One more thing... Its things like the picture below that made any hardship i faced in florida worth every second of my life that i spent out there. (not that i faced any particular hardship, u just deal with it!) I took this picture on the carribean sea when i was on a disney cruise that i had for half price because i was a disney cast member. Waking up to this pretty much makes anything jim had to say irrelevant...
omg! i love working for disney! merch is so awsome! the people i work with are amazing and the managers are really great. sure the pay isn't good but that's not the purpose of the year! it;s the experience and all the fun you'll have. i've been here for almost 2 months and i'm having the time of my life...both in and out of work!
LOL... i agreed with yáll... who cares about the $$.. its the experience and fun that we expect thru this year!! ;D
WELL SAID ZANITTA!!!! shes rite - most of us here know what to expect, we know were going to have 2 work long hours and we no the money isnt great but were working in disney isnt that enough?? im jus going there to have areally good time and i cant wait to meet all the people (who all sound great) - and if (and its a BIG if for some mad reason i dont like it (dont think thats going to happen lol) but if i dont ill go home and give somone else the opportunity to have a go) i think i speak for everyone on here when i say I CANT WAIT
i agree with amber. i love it here....the job aint great all the time, but its well and truly worth it to be here and have the experience we're having. for every really annoying guest i get theres one really nice one that makes it worth while. and the hours, wll im just about to start work, a SIX hour shift.....so it aint always long hours, and thats not a bad thing. its not like im really missing the money, an i have more time to chill before everyone leaves in a few weeks and it gets hectic before the sept lot arrive. we all knew what the deal was wen we went to the interviews, so nothing has come as a major shock really. wait ti you get here and decide for yourself....and yeah, well said, couldnt have been that bad if youre still looking it up 2 years later!!! Linz xxx
well lindsey out of all that has been said here on this post created by some random twat with nothing better to do this quote has gotto to sum it all up. no one can no 100% what it will be like out there till the get the great op to do it themselfs and as we can see on here the number of people who enjoyed it far outway the ones who didn't...... so yes its up to us to decide if we like it or not personally i can't wait and love all the fun stories people tell us on here it keeps the disney spirit alive afte all isn't dinsey all about fun.. they should change the disney slogen to sumthin along the lines of that of the british army..... WORK HARD PLAY HARD. 2009/10 is my turn at disney and it hell waiting lol jenine xx
Jim, How dare you slate the program, when from day 1 of the interview u knew what it was going to be like. Your attitude is wrong and un called for. As others havent experienced it yet, it makes there feeling already bad even worse and have second thoughts. FOR YOUR OWN SAKE, SORRY TO SAY IT, PLEASE DONT USE THIS SITE AGIAN!!!!!!!!!!!, im sure everyone else agrees if you had problem in the first place why didnt you bring them forward, it all boils down to you
I did know a lot of people who arrived in Florida not really knowing what to expect...not even having much of a clue about the program really (believe it or not!!!). Not everyone is prepared as those of you on here, but then that's their fault for not spending time to find out what they are getting themselves into! This is just someone coming on as a guest trying to stir up some shit. Shan
Yes what the "guest" says is probably true. It may not be the best place to work in the world but the experience you gain during the year is way more than the job. You will be working on average 30-40 hours out of a week that consists of 168 hours. That means that for the majority of the time you will not be working. The friends you make there will last a lifetime and so will the experiences. Even now, more than two years on I still recall experiences with immense fondness and happiness and most of them are from being drunk in Bennigans. I have many a film developed in Walgreens from a cheapo Scuzz cam to prove it. You know what you're going to get paid before you go there. You know how much the rent is going to be (and trust me compared to other apartments in Orlando you're laughing). Accept the job for what it is. American managers are the way they are. They are two faced and they do not understand the British sense of humour and out desire to go and get pissed on a Monday night in Lads/Lasses. Most of the managers who have come to work in the UK pavillion (or any other for that matter) have come from another location where they are surrounded by career Disney workers or CP's who have to behave themselves to get the necessary college credits. Disney is Disney. Accept it for what it is. If you go out there with the worng expectations then you're bound to be disappointed. Work the system and you can work it in your favour. Overtime is a huge bonus and they're likely to offer it to those who show interest in the job. You don't have to be a jobs worth either. Be down to earth, being a Disney freak is likely to get you nowhere. Sick days are there to be taken but use them wisely. Personally I would rather take a sick day to go to the beach than waste one lying in bed all day with a hangover (lets face it the job isn't that demanding) Enjoy the experience. Have a great time. But be fully aware of what the job and living experience entails. By accepting the position and leaving early cause you don't like it, you are denying someone else who may truely embrace the experience Rich
Anyone seen my msn space....that'll tell you what it's really like!! I'm having the time of my life!! Ellen x x x x x
yeh that jim is pretty much a c*ck! Ellen i just looked at your msn space pictures and it brought back some good memories! :'( Was good to see andy, fi, pascalle and zoe in your pictures, they were all there when i worked in merch! Tell andy to get his act together and consider writing an email to the guy who threw throw ins down to him!! Hope hes doing a good a job as i did at throw ins and keeping the merch presence in UK lads alive!! 8)
