    Let me understand...
is it not for sure that rooms have a router??
I bought just a couple of days ago a wireless adapter for my portable pc...
...because I thought it's the only thing I would need...
I really hope to find a router in my room!!

There will not be a wireless router in the room, unless you're moving into a room with exisitng residents and they happen to already have one.

It's plenty good for just normal usage. Unless you're doing something that requires a ton of bandwith ie: games/downloading... then it's perfectly fine. Even then, I think it's still pretty good.

well that`s pretty cool,,,, i just use internet to use my e mail and to download some music for the ipod .... so that`s great .....

it would be better to have wireless but it is expensive a router don`t ????

What about for downloading lots of songs and video's etc? lol. My nintendo DS takes up a lot of bandwith I think too.

Routers aren't that expensive. About $60, so if you split that 6 ways, that's $10 each or 4 ways, $15 each.

Honestly, I haven't downloaded anything since I've gotten here. I'm kinda scared I'll get caught and sued or something. In the US, they are a lot more, shall we say, strict with downloading, unlike Canada. I'm not sure how it compares with the rest of the world, but I'd rather play it safe and I can get whatever I need when I get home.

so what kind of downloads matt?????

    you can`t download music ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿

In technical terms, you can download anything: legal or illegal. I think Matt's point (without meaning to speak for him) is that downloading illegal content is a worse idea (in terms of legal consequences )in the USA than it is anywhere else. Not that I'm meaning to justify law breaking in any country...it's just that the civil suits being filed by the RIAA are financially are for a lot of damages.

And routers are very useful...so mine is coming with me :)

ok thankyou very mucho for the info ..... but illegal you mean also music don`t you?????

There would be a breach of intellectual property law in downloading music, yep. That's the basis of the RIAA lawsuits.

Indeed, I heard that there was a 12 year old kid who got sued for tens of thousands of dollars. Yikes! :-\

Hey! Ok, on the topic of internet... I bought a mega cheap laptop today (woooo!) which comes with ethernet type stuff for a broadband connection through a cable. This does come in the room doesnt it?? I remember reading that on another topic somewhere but \i cant find it!

All the rooms come with a router, you need to get a lan cable, Which hooks right in and
into your laptop, You can get wireless, my roomate had a wireless router downstairs and i just stole from him :) he said it was alright. But you need to get a wireless router which easily attaches like the Lan Cable.
