IM planning like many of you probably have to get a laptop so i can hav internet access in my room..............one problem though which is stoppin my parents buyin my that lol my dad mentioned that he was worried about the cost of the server. My dad was worried that if my laptop had an internet connection with say tiscali a british server does that mean when imin the US the connection would have to go all the way back to england first then back to the US and cost more?? Is there a way i can hav a cheap internet server whilst in the US?? If anybody is making sense of my question please answer lol also would i need an adapter to connect my computer to the internet connection in my room??
so does that mean my laptop would just have to have a modem and then when i plugged it in it would automatically have internet access?? (sorry dont know much about computers if i sound abit dumb lol but piccie of dory is there for a reason lol)
Yep, all you need to do is buy an ethernet cord at walmart once you get here ( about $10) plug it into ur computer and ur on the net. hope this helps
Whats Ethernet and how does it work? My Laptop has got an Ethernet card, but I don't know what it is for!
Ethernet is the same as internet just a permenant line ie. broadband. You need a LAN connection cable rather than the normal phone/modem cable. You can get these from any pc provider
Hi Guys, I had ethernet last year - it was great really fast. All you do is but the ethernet cable (slightly wider than dial up cable goes in the socket with the two arrows if that makes sense! - you can get them anywhere in states i got mine on campus but i think wal mart do them. You just plug them in and if your internet settings on your laptop arnt automatic you just change them.. A lot of laptops now have ethernet cards... i have an i book and thats got it built in.. Its easier than setting up dial up! xxx
