Hey, What insurance company have people gone with? I was set on going with STA but then someone said not to go with them so now I don't know. Help please!!
I have no idea either. I've found other companies who are much cheaper but I'm scared they won't give enough cover or they'll just be rubbish. As a consequence I've been putting off making a decision and sorting it out. I think I'm going to go for the Disney cover after 4 months so I'm just hoping I don't have to go to the doctor before then so that I don't have to faff around claiming as apparently it's much easier with the Disney one x
Glad I'm not the only one who's got herself in a pickle and has been putting it off lol. I'm only getting 4 months as well. I might go with seven corners, the other one yummy mentions. Don't know what they're like though. I booked my flight through STA so I'd get a discount if I got my insurance with them. I really don't know! The insurance has been by far the hardest part of the whole thing xx
I used insure and go, but i would not recommend them. Problem is that with many insurers for travel abroad, they cover you for if something really bad happens and you end up in hospital, but if its an outpatient type thing like you need to see the doctor for something like a respiratory problem etc which would be like a regular UK GP appointment, then most of them make you pay up front and then 'claim it back', when i enquired in early 2010 about that with a walk in centre, it was $260 for an appointment then you had to pay for extras such as medication, tests etc. I would recommend Disney insurance 4 months in, its quite good and even on one of the lowest 'tariffs', its only then $15 (unless its gone up) to see a doctor then $2 per prescription and it was only around $7 a week or something like that for the insurance. You kinda just have to hope that you don't get ill in the first 4 weeks. Im sure other people will have other advice and stories though that can help you out. Hope thats a little helpful! Might be worth asking insurers about how their policy covers you with regard to outpatient appointments.
I'm the exact same but instead of stressing myself out I just went with STA, they meet the requirements Disney asks for, they were easy to use & because I booked my flight with them I got 10% off! I spoke to a Jill Porter who was really helpful and she gave me loads of advice, I could have shopped around & probably got something cheaper but I decided not to stress myself
I've heard a lot of bad stuff about STA not willing to pay up for claiming back money, so I'm not going to go with them. I was going to go with Direct Travel, it was £50 for 4 months M/I but then I thought that seemed too cheap, and made me suspicious that they're not that good either. I might go with Seven Corners, although I'm still going to check out the prices first, because they're linked to Disney too, apparently!
does anyone know what exactly disney requires as far as coverage goes? I know i have the information somewhere but i cant seem to find it!
I wouldn't go with Seven Corners. I know 2 people who tried to claim from them and they wouldn't pay up. One for a broken ankle, one for a three day stay in hospital with a virus (at a cost of $17,000!)(He just ignored their letters till he came back home and now aparantly they can't catch him lol). I went with Insure and Go, I never needed anything off them though, so can't say how good they are lol. A lot of peoople get the Disney one, it does cover pretty much anything, and you can nip to health services at work (if you're not on Disney, you can't go there so have to go find a proper doctor), but it is quite expensive. Doesn't sound too bad at like $7 a week, but when you add up the year it was $400 or something. Also, just from personal experience, renewing your insurance when you're out there is a pain in the arse. I think I would have just got the year when I started. Nearly everyone I knew forgot theirs ran out after the 4 months and spent a few weeks without insurance lol.
