I got rejected before the phone interview. Long cover letter. However I feel its my work experience that let me down. I have only ever had one job since leaving school and its hardly in the most tourism sector. (I sell tools) however I only want to apply for merch at disney and have no interests in F&B. So i can't think what to do! This is why I thought my retail experience was relevent: 1. I live in Brighton, huge tourism area. I deal with a lot of tourists. 2. Despite moving to London my manager still paid my train fare (around £20 a day!) for me to come back and work on some occasions. Which shows how hard a worker I am and would benefit disney. So I really don't know what let me down. I am looking for jobs in a more tourist sector right now, but its difficult as I wouldn't get the relevent experience for the january apps. It would be soooo much easier if Yummy Jobs gave information as to why you were declined because right now I am sooo confused.
Okay bud, first off many people on this forum go through this so your not alone. Alot of us including myself who was put on a wait list, feel like this. What have i done? Why am I not chosen? And 9/10 people never properly find out. I think at times and im saying this as someone who has been given a start date. It's luck of the draw. Because I know many people on here (gary) who would be perfect for this, and weren't given a phone interview. What I recommend is to email the international programs office, explain to them what you're going through and im sure someone will email you with the types of things you can improve on for your next application. I would recommend however getting a new job in a more customer service focused environment, and in your next application making sure to note that you have done this so to gain more experience for disney. This is a very long and hard process, its like any job in the world. Alot of people on here feel that as though it is Disney that some form of special treatment is given, but at the end of the day, disney is like any business and a level of professionalism needs to be had by those applying. I would also recommend waiting a few months then contacting yummyjobs and ask them for advice. I imagine right now Michele will be busy with the CRP applications, so its probably best to leave it untill that time calms down a bit. So for now, I say get a new job, enjoy christmas and new years and prepare a stellar cover letter and CV and apply again in January. Oh and one last thing, dont give up. If this is something you really want? Then keep keep applying. I hope this helps.
I also got refused but I rang up Yummy Jobs at the end of last week and basically what I was told was that the majority of people who did get refused were refused because whilst we have experience it isn't consistent experience in the relative areas. Nick said that the best places to get experience are in customer service roles, food and beverage, and hospitality. However I am now having second thoughts about reapplying but I hope it all goes well for you, and really you aren't the only one who didn't get through even to the first stage.
When do you find out if you have been refused. My friend sent her application off a few weeks ago and she hasn't heard anything either way. Does this mean that she hasn't got on. Oh and you always have the right to ask why didn't you make it, with every job interview or application you can contact them for feedback. And they have to give it to you as well!!!! so i'd find out specifically where you went wrong and build up on those areas. x
The guys above have pretty much said most things... lack of consistent experience, or (in my case) 10 months isn't enough when up against people who have a couple of years experience. I'd just like to add that there is also an element of luck involved. Think about it, there is one human being (flawless as we all are ) looking through a massive pile of CVs. (S)he won't be able to remember every single one of them, so you are basically being compared to the last dozen or so that (s)he read. If those last dozen were utterly useless, you have a fighting chance of getting an interview, but if even 1 or 2 of those dozen were dazzling, your chances have dropped dramatically (unless of course, your CV is also dazzling). You've also go to remember that you're up against over 1000 people. Doesn't sound too many until you start thinking about how many jobs are going. I reckon it's about 25 jobs per recruitment session. That's alot of people per job! I too rang up yummy, and one thing they said to me is that they keep our CVs from this time round and compare them if we apply again. So sometimes, it's enough to have gone out there and tried... show yummy how much you want this by improving yourself. It's certainly what I'm going to try doing.
Times are tough and it might be of interest for you to explore working in the food and beverage sector to expand your experience. In North America right now, the unemployment rate it at a ridiculous high and would definately be to your advantage to be a "jack of all trades" to gain more experience in more than one customer service setting. Employers want are looking to hire fewer people who are flexible and who can do a job that consists of many different skills (not necessarily for Disney but in general). Anyways, keep your chin high and take this time to explore your skills! I am guessing you are young and this is the time to gain that experience. Good luck!
thanks Jim hehe and yea i also never even got to the phone interview stage, but dont let this put you off i have been working with my dad for 4 years now, asa mechanic, selling parts, fitting parts, customer relations ect, but still but i think this has made me more determined, im going to do all i can to show them how much i want this, looking for a second job, in a restuarant or something, plus it helps me money wise for when i DO get accepted hehe but yea, keep at it, most people get fufused once or twice before beeing accepted. you files stay on their computers so keep applying and they will see how much you want it!!
One thing I must add is when it comes to a cover letter, it needs to be more or less a paragraph and being straight to the point, dont go into detail, just say who you are, the job you want, your experience and breifly why you should have the job, but don't do a big long letter, they don't have time to read it most of the time....i didn't even do a cover letter for my first program and this CRP and I'm going out on the 8tyh Dec, so son't worry about cover letters! If you have worked in retail, big up your responsibilities in ure CV, same as working in Restaurants/hotels etc DISNEY is after all a resort full of hospitality departments and customer service, if you work in these areas more you will be highly thought of as it thrives on Tourism. I didn't fill in the WORK EXPERIENCE section either I just put "see CV" cause its all in there, why do they need to read it twice, its a waste of time really! Its not the end of the world if you get rejected just try again, CRP is open to everyone at any age (above 18) so theres plenty of time!!! Don't give up! I was in the same situation as JIM, I applied earlier in the year, got put on waiting list after F2F interview, didnt hear anything, took myself off waiting list and re-applied, got an email about phone interview, had a call and they said could i go out 8th december, to do Merch which I very little experience in so i do count myself extremely lucky, and i mean if they have a place they will fill it!!! It is just a waiting game and there are a hell of a lot of people who apply for this program and there are like only 20 places at a time or there abouts!!! Its tough but the pay out is worth it, It may be worth some of you guys maybe applying for ICP so they have seen you've done it before and stuff, bit more costly, but they will know who you are!! x
most people who applied at the beginning of august found out a week after...but they found out if they were rejected or had a fone interview, the emails go out on the same day...they will email her to let her know, might me the case though that they have filled their quota of people they want to interview.
NO DONT HAVE SECOND THOUGHTS!! Go work at a hotel, most hotles, expeically the bigger names like Qhotels and Hilton are more than likely always recruiting!! F&B places mainly but Receptionists are also great positions!! haha!! But can kinda see why you wouldn't if you have found yourselve in a position that you can advance in the career ure in now!
Haha Todd, I get the hint I might still apply, it depends on whether I get a graduate scheme I have applied for which would start in Sept 2010 for a year.
