Hello everyone I am new here and I was just wondering how to get hired. I have contacted the canadian reps for the cuise line and all they have said is that interviews may be coming up in June in Toronto. Does anyone know about that? Also I was wondering what life is like onboard. I'm sure it's a great experience. I'd love some feedback. Thanks
Hey there! i'm looking after to get hired at the DCL as well, I worked at Epcot this lst year 2004-2005 and I just got back last month, I saw you post and i found it intresting because I want to work for the DCL as well. Me and my girfriend sent a letter to the mexican recruitment guy, and he said that there's not a precise date for this year. And it's driving us crazy. So making a team with you, we want answers for thatm, if someone know anything about it. please let us know!!! thank you Fernando (ex-mexico merchandiser @epcot)
Fernando It's Dan!! How you doing? As far as I know, DCL havent got much room at the moment, I went to Casting and asked. I think that like you told me, everyone extended their contracts. And he said they couldnt guarantee the avavilability of positions. Hope that helps! Email me if you get chance! Dan
Hey Fernando and Dan, they are doing interviews in europe right now.. the 9th and the 1oth in paris.. I am joining the one on the 10th so if I have the chance I am gonna ask for mexico and the usa... i also know that some castmembers (germans) who did the interview last august at epcot are leaving on the 13th to orlando. they gonna do the training there and leave later for the cruise. they had to wait more that 6month because the old crew extented.. i let u know about the interview hope u guys are fine... by the way, fernando.. who is your girlfriend??? dani
Thanks for the input Dannii!! It's all weird everybody talking on here rather than in mine and fernandos apartment! LOL I heard it might take a while to get on DCL too. But Good Luck guys!! Dan P.S Yeah Fer, who is this girlfriend you speak of? Are you gonna introduce us?
Hi guys, Just wanted to let you know, that if you apply, be VERY patient! I went to the interview in Orlando in Late July, got the job in Early/mid August and will be leaving to join the ship on tuesday May 3rd. I'm in the childrens programing dep.(nursery) where they have aprox 50 staff on each ship, but still, it's a long wait Martine
hi i´m going to work in f&b, i would like to know what can i do to work at the cruise??? is it possible??? thanks
Hi there! Well I must say this it has been a long time since I posted on this site. I was in the International Program Canada Merch and then I left early and went on to DCL. I have been with Disney Cruise Line - Wonder for over a year now. I am on my vacation, but I have to extend my holiday because of my knee surgery. I am part of the Cruise Staff team - we do all of the family and adult entertainment and activites. I love working on the ship and I must say it is 100% better than the international program, well that is my opinion. So..how do you get a job with DCL? Well patience is the key to some extent, but also you need to apply through your recruitment agency in your country. For Canada...its Castaway. It does say on the site that they will be doing interviews in Toronto sometime in June. You first have to be invited to the interview from cast-a-way, then Disney is there. When I did my interview there was only like 25 people there, they were looking for cruise staff and youth programmers. You watch a video on cruise ship life and disney, then you get a time for your interview. It's a one-on-one interview with someone from dCL shoreside. I was lucky to have the lady who is responsible for all the entertainment hire me. I got hired quite fast. I had my interview on Sat, got a call on Wednesday with a job offer, then you have to do your medical test. When you pass your medical and criminal background, then they will give you a date. I left within 3 1/2 weeks after my medical was done. I love my job with Disney...its hard at times because you work 7 days a week 10-12 hours a day, but its worth it. They take care of your flights, accomodation, food, and you get to do training in Celebration and stay at the all-star resort, and its all taken care of. Keep on trying to get with the ship, its a one of a kind experience, and its fun! Take care everyone, ask questions and I will try my best to answer. Hope to see you onboard. Lynsay
Hi Lynsey Did you start life on the ship in Cruise Staff or merch? Who trains you out there - is it all in Celebration and pretty much land based? do you have any formal training on the ship with a Training Officer or is it done 'on the job' (so to speak!) with a Disney Trainer? Sorry lots of questions! Just curious...
hey! Well I have been on the ship as Cruise Staff...I only did Merch in the Canada Pavilion. How training works is you have classes from Wed - Fri, and if you go on the Magic you leave Sat, and the Wonder Sunday, so you could have a day off if you are going on the Wonder. Disney pays for all of your accomodation and flights and food. So what happens is you do Traditions in Celebration. You learn about the ship and the whole Disney Difference. So that is what the classes are for...so that is your on land training. When you get to the ship, you will have a trainer in your department that will take care of you, plus you do have a training officer who does the other classes that you have to take. Safety, Sexual Harrassment, Security..blah blah you will have a week of classes on the ship plus your work training. So its a ton of fun in celebration, its a big party and then the ship is crazy...you will love it..go and do it! lynsay
Dougslar - me work on the ship in Merch?!?! - u gotta be kiddin me! Â i wanna go forwards not backwards!!! lol! nah -Â would love to do the cruise but don't want to waste my recruitment/training background - if i could work in HR I go for it in a flash. ciao :-*
Ok, they do have HR on the ships you know! And believe me they could do with some decent folk on there! The HR team when I was on there was made up of people who used to work in the dining room!!! Of course I'm not bitter that they fired me boyfriend or anything!!! (Sorry kind of gone of the point of this topic!!!) ???
That's what I really want to do. I loved being a Disney Trainer and because of that I got into education when I got home. I'm now (well in a couple of weeks I'm officially done ) a maths teacher but I've realised that it's adults that I want to work with. So now I'm hoping to apply for DCL and in the meantime I'm trying to get into hr/training here in the UK. I emailed DCL asking about their hr/training roles as they have those roles listed on their website. But i've had abolutely no response from the what-so-ever. I'm going to try calling them this week. If I find out anything, I'll let you know. Ona x
The trouble with HR on the ship is that they are very small departments. Only 3 people on each ship! And when I was there it seemed to people that they had promoted from within other departments. Maybe you should try applying for something else then try getting moved into HR. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but they tell you can get promotions but it seemed to me when I was on there to be quite hard. You had to be there for at least 6 months before you could think about transferring to a different department and then even then there was a lot of other rules and regulations! I actually got an interview for finance when I was there. I didn't get it but they told me if I had it would have been at least another year before a position would have come up! I left a few weeks after that anyway! Don't get me wrong you can get promotions and move departments but it can take a long time. The ship is good that way if you're in it for the long haul! One of the girls I worked with in merch got made assistant manager just after I left but she had been on the ship for more two years!!! Anyway, it may be different on there now who knows! So you're going to be a Maths teacher!! brave girl! I have a Maths degree but haven't done very much with it, apart from Disney!!!! :
Hey Sorry to barge in on ur thread but i just got home from the international program (UK f&b). and i'm just making sure that i sent my cv to the right place, i sent mine to the place in france that is listed on the DCLjobs.com but there is a different one here- an adress in USA, can anyone help??? Should i send it to both. Also how long was it since you all sent ur cvs that you heard anything at all? Thanks Danielle x
