well i have this question, how much money do you guys spend in orlando per month, i mean in like:
    food
    trasnportation (buss)
    housing
    etc......

and pretty much everything that u have to pay during the month, this becuase i am trying to make a budget and see if i am gonna be okay with the money that disney offers.

i might be working in merch....so if anyone who is already a CRP working in Orlando could give some information about this i would appreciate it
    thanks

Your rent and bills will be taken out of your paycheck every week, and the buses to and from the parks are included in that. The only thing you'll actually have to buy is food and toiletries.
Disney pays enough so that the wages left after rent is taken out is enough to live on, if not extravagantly. It kind of depends how many hours you do each week. If you take too many ERs (early releases) and take days off (by getting cover), then you'll have next to no money for food. But if you do the hours you're rota-d for, then you'll have about $100 left for food etc each week. (This is info from another thread, I've not actually been out there)

Basically, so long as you don't go out drinking every night, you'll be fine for money. Just don't expect to come home with any savings.

I'm going through money like no ones business!!! Have as much as possible as there are quite a few things that you need to buy out here, like a phone, bedding, toiletries, work shoes etc.

Smart dress shoes, to go with your smart outfit.

Most replies have been from people who've only just started, and yea there are a whole load of initial start up things to buy - bedding, work shoes, food etc. I think the OP was asking about money *after* all of those initial costs though.

its hard to give you the monthly sorta budgets cos you get paid weekly -heres roughly what i spent when i was there:
    grocery $15 (e.g $1.50 bread / $1 butter / $5 cheese / $2-5 pizzas / $1-$2 micro food/ready meals / $3 bottled water/juice) but once a month would do big shop and stock up and spend around $50
Phone card to call home $5
phone credit for mobile $10 (was actually $30 but generally lasted about 3 weeks)
Lasses/Monday nights $10-15 if going out nif not then $1-$2
Universal pass $2.50 (paid monthly about $11 but if you buy up front theres no extra cost)
Taxies between $8-25 depending on how many night out and how far away the clubs were e.g. downtown orlando to cowboys was $8 return bennigans was about $2 each way rip bennys, walmart around $6 one way but if your sharing its cheaper obv
    Clubbing etc around $25-50
    Cinema $8
meals out $10-$40 depending on where eating and how often

You live within your means though - above is averages for when i was on non tipped wage so similar to merchy wage. When i was a sevrer could easily spend around $100 on eating out rather than buying food and cooking it cos was too tired after work to be bothered and when i did go grocery shopping i bought more expensive stuff than before so rather than getting dr thunder which was like 68c i would buy dr pepper for $1.29 sort of thing

also the work shoes you need - you can get the cheap ones at walmart they cost around $20 and they last about 6 weeks!!! no matter what you are doing you are on your feet. i think f and b more so than merch went thru sooo many pairs of shoes. they literally dfall apart and you have to buy more i prob bought about 6 pairs of work shoes! the more expensive ones last longer but depending on how much money your making will be how much your willing to pay for the shoes. if your in f and b your shoes should be non slip - servers/bar etc have to have non slip for health n safety reasons

generally your work sheos need to be black, no logos or very simple plain logo, non slip if possible. think school shoes and your about right lol

the 'smart' shoes are just for traditions and your intro to epcot day and for graduation.

for girls its same as above except for graduation most girls get really nice dresses and coordinated shoes etc

Thanks for the breakdown pink spider- I'm going to change my money soon so it's good to know how much extra I might need to take to top up my merch wage! (luckily it's my birthday sunday and I'm hoping for dollars).

I was just wondering if any of you bothered getting a pre-paid cash card or not? I think I need to get one soon if I am, and was wondering if anyone knows the best one to get?

About phones... Is it smarter to buy pre-paid phones, or should you invest in a subscription phone?
I almost never use my phone, and I pay around 10 $ a year for my subscription (never use up my free 120 free calling minutes and 90 SMS every month) :p

    Hey ShoX!

I think the best would be buying a prepaid phone... most subscription would require a signed contract of 18 months :S

Okay Diego, good to know :)

I think the only reason I would need a phone is to call the cab to and from the malls, parks, etc... When I am contacting home, I think I will use Skype or e-mail (hooray technology - it makes your life cheaper) :p

How does these pre-paid phone works? Is it a one-time buy of a phone, then fill it up with a refill card? or do you buy a new one every time (sorry for stupid question)

At least here in Mexico they work this way:

    1. You buy the phone... it has around 30 USD (for example) to be used in texts or phonecalls
    2. Once you run out of "money" you have to buy card for X amount of money to refill your time.

And that's it... I believe it's the same thing in the US, dunno.

I use suscription service at home... dunno if I should take it, but Nextel I'm taking it once I get accepted, it has international coverage, at least in the American Continent.

Yeah, thats how it works here in Norway too. I doubt there is any other way to use a pre-paid phone service :p

Only 25 days left now, and it is good to get the last pieces done before my journey :D

    hi guys

yeah you can just get a cheap $30 cell phone from walmart and then you buy refill cards to top up your credit, you can get $5,$10,$20 and i think $50 refills, the phone i had there was a basic nokia, it worked well all year and had no problems with it!!
