    Hi guys

Ive found out that UK applications should open again in July, so not too long too wait!

I wondered how much experience everyone has in "retail and Hospitality" for the F&B and Merch Positions? I'm 24, and will prob be near 25 by the time I get to go to Disney ( if I get too go) But most of my experience is in Events and Hospitality Management, rather then waitressing and shop assistant. I'm hoping IL still be in with a shot!!

    hey leanne.

i have quite a few years retail experience however when during my interviews it was never really mentioned until the face to face in london... but saying that i have no food+beverage experience and i told them i would prefer to do that as a new experience and a challenge and i was successful.. so i would say it's more about your enthusiasm and passion for disney and offering quality service that is what gets you the job

Some people get hired with no experience, others with years upon years. I'd say that events and hospitality management is relevant experience, as it's customer service. But as aristophanes said, they look more for the "right person" as much as they do the experience, as Disney does provide full training with every position you get.

I agree that they look more for the "right person" as much as they do the experience cuz Disney will hire some people who haven't any experiences.
It is so difficult to show them why I'm the right person ::)
Anyone can share some ideas or experiences ???

I have none, yep,nil zip zilch zero. From what I've seen /read/talked to people about. It appears to be entirely the quality of the candidate and there personality. I'm pretty sure you could have years of experience working in food and beverage and other related industries but if you aren't the type of candidate Yummy and Disney are looking for then you won't get through.

If your a cheerful, fun person with endless patience and the ability to smile even when you don't want to. You may just fit in ..... ;)

    Hello Leanne,

I am exactually the same as you most of my experience is in management and events. As i am now a wedding coordinator, they dont look at the experience at all- One of the girls i am flying out with in September has no experience at all in food and beverage but got food and beverage.

I really think it is the person they are looking at and not the experience. I made sure that my CV was bright and colourful and out a Mickey in one corner of the first page and a minnie on the opposite side!!! In my interview i was told by Yummy that they look at your CV and spend about 10 seconds looking at it so you need something on that front page that stands out and grabs their attention and says I want to work for Disney!!!!

Hope that helps. I know i am excited as i did a bit of waitressing and bar work while training as a manager but now cant wait to get back into it.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I'm eighteen and I've never had a job. And don't think I'm lazy or whatever! School has been more important to me. Now I'm finding it near impossible to find a job in my town since I don't have experience, which I think is unfair. I'm smart, my grades show that. Show me once how to use a cash register (just ONCE) and I'll pick it up like nobody's business! I sincerly hope Disney doesn't hire on an experience basis because if they do...I'm screwed.

I've only got 2 and a half months of experience working in Marks & Spencer, and a year volunteering in a charity shop. I know there are people who have a lot more experience than I have, but I've managed to make it to the F2F interview (whether I'll get further is to be decided two weeks on Friday - eek!). Your experience is with dealing with customers, so that's definitely something in your favour. And as Sam said, it's about how you present your CV and cover letter - I made mine colourful and enthusiastic, and I'm convinced that's what prompted them to invite me for a phone interview :)

I wouldn't worry too much, i had never done lifeguarding before i got to disney and did the ICP and settled in fine as well as i have only F&B experience and ill be doing merch at disney on the CRP. I think they are very pedantic, they like it done a certain way so they teach every one like they have no experience:)

In the f2f they just want to see how enthusiastic you are and obviously making sure your polite and confident etc rather then your actual experience. some people have zero experience and some have 20 yrs....hope that helps!

18 Ahh to be 18 again ! A few hints - Having no experiences is not the end of the world actually it's better because you haven't picked up bad habits through a job.

Rule number 1 : It's always who you know , not what you know (I've never had a formal job interview , even for Law School It's always been a brief chat and a "yeah you look sensable when can you start").

Rule number 2 : Experience can be gained from anywhere. Not just a paid job , Do you volunteer , Help out the younger students , Play a musical instrument, Ever see stuff on your notice board at school and uni and think hmm that looks like fun - Then do it !!!!
Your only here once and no chances to repeat. Pretty much anything at all can be spun creatively enough on your c.v to show why you have the skills over another candidate it's all about showing it in the right light. Grades are important too but some on the brigest people i know I wouldn't trust them to tie there shoes !

Rule Number 3 When ever you meet people for the first time regardless of the situation, Chin up - Smile - Make eye contact - Don't be intimidated If you spend the interview looking at your shoes and not saying much , chances are you aren't going to be hired !

Follow those three steps and you'll do fine !
