Hi guys I wondered how far you find your wages stretch after your rent has been deducted? Do you find you are able to have a comfortable lifestyle? (have dinner out occasionally, pay for occasional activities etc other then general food shopping) I am just trying to plan how much money to save up to bring over with me. Would anyone mind letting me know roughly that amount you are left with per week after rent? Thanks a lot
It depends where you work...I'm assuming you're from the UK. The first couple of weeks are a bit rough because they take out additional funds from your pay cheque, I forget what for, but I think you end up with about 70-100 pay cheques for a bit. On podium (in F&B) you probably make about 100/week after rent depending on how many shifts you work and how often you ER or get an ADO (early release or get A Day Off). Once you get into service you make a lot more. I'd save as much as you can, especially if you want to buy a universal seasons pass or anything like that right away.
i would say come out with as much money as possible i came across with alot! and its better coming out with too much than not enough... like what was said before if you want to buy a universal pass etc bring alot of money for example i have bought a sea world pass and going to buy a universal pass hopefully next week!
It took me 7 months to become a server, and during that time I probably spent $5000/6000 of my own savings (not including what I earned). But then I again I didn't actually make an effort to cut back until I became a server or anything, I shopped, ate out a lot etc. (I'm in Norway, not the UK if that matters for anything btw)
I was thinking about this too I'm trying to take about $2k. I still don't think that's gonna be enough...
When I did ICP last summer I headed down with only $400 (starving student what can I say haha) and that was more than enough to last me through buying bedding, groceries, nights out etc. I don't think I even used money from paycheck until the second month or so. Trying all the yummy restaurants at disney/surrounding area is a must, however eating out is definitely where a lot of your money goes. I saved a ton once I started actually packing lunches for work, and bringing snacks with me when I was playing in the parks. If you're worried about not making enough to live, don't be!! I managed to go to concerts, rent cars for roadtrips, go shopping, have plenty of nights out etc etc etc etc I guess you just gotta save a lot if you're planning on spending extravagantly ..but otherwise, just budget wisely and you'll be fine
Thanks!!! You kinda brought back hope to me xD Now I wonder, does anybody know how much does a Concierge make???
My god, what are you planning on buying! lol. My mate took $300...and ran out. I took about $700 and was fine. I would advise to take as much as you can, but maybe $400/500 as a minimum. Just be aware, as people have said, your wages for the first couple of weeks will be less, but your outgoings will be more (setting up home, going out, buying work shoes etc). Once you get paid regularly you should be fine. You'll get about $150 a week (F&B podium or Merch), so as long as you don't go mad, you'll be grand. Once in service (if that's an option) your wages will vary (one week I got about $70, another, $500 lol...just depends on how much grat you get...that's just in your paycheck though, if you include your cash tips, you'll average about the same most weeks)
lol, there were days in service when you'd even get a minus amount in your pay check if you happened to make just cash tips for the week... I think last time I took about 1000 dollars out with me and bought sea world/universal annual passes off the bat and spent about 200 in wallmart getting myself set up. I remember being fine though and once you get paid you're okay. you make abuot 8 dollars an hour I think on podium/merch, a little more if training or assigning... service is about 3 dollars an hour... bear in mind it also depends how much rent you pay as this fluctuates on how many people in your apartment. if you are in a 2-person then you pay abuot 20-30 dollars more per week than if you are in an 8-person. but most of that is luck of the draw on arrival.
I was in a 2 bed (4 people) in Commons and paid $101pw. Wouldn't change it though! Patterson is cheaper, but they don't have washing machines or a bus stop. I didn't get my universal pass till about 3 months in. As long as you go more than 2 or 3 times though, it pays for itself. Lol...I never made the minuses...think the lowest was about $40 after rent lol
Thought you guys might like to know that in the presentation for the latest recruitment for the UK CRPs they listed the wages as $7.55 for merch, $8.05 for F&B and $4.10 (something like that) for Service
Thanks hun, that's really helpful. It's more than we were quoted in our offer letters too, US minimum wage must have gone up which is a result! I so need to save more money though... :-\
] will that be the same pay for those who are just starting then? coz i've got the $7.46 pay in my contract :-s
I don't know... it wouldn't be fair to not pay everyone the same tho would it? Bear in mind that our recruitment season (with these numbers) is theoretically 2012 so it might be next year's pay rate
In my letter it says $7.95 (f&b) and in my sister's, who leaves for the CRP 3 weeks after me, it says $8.05. lol. Also f&b.
I don't know for sure, but I was talking to a girl who did concierge at Old Key West and Saratoga Springs yesterday and I believe she was on the college program so it wasn't tipped, however if you were a runner (which I don't exactly know what you're running) she said they did get tips sometimes. I'm sure someone else can give you a better answer...
running (in this context) is when you physically take items/luggage to guests in their rooms, you will sometimes get handed a cash tip from the guest when you deliver the items! the rest of the time the concierge staff are on the desk so dont get tips. youl get paid the rate that is in your own contract. if they decide to increase your pay after that then it may go up but they only have to pay you the money that has been agreed in the contract you have been given, regardless of what anyone else is getting!
Thanks a lot for the information, had no idea about the "run"... I just got my invitation letter, it says I'll get $8.45... which makes me wonder how hard is it gonna be or how many hours will I have to work xD... but it's alright, I'm just really excited to go!!! See ya, have fun!
