How much are you REALLY bringing?

Everyone I've talked to says don't take much down, as I'll end up buying tons of cheap stuff down there.

I was thinking just my business attire a couple outfits and that's it, and just do some shopping along the way. I'm allowed two bags and wanted to bring my golf clubs so it kinda cuts my bags to "one" but I'm not sure how much to really bring!

Starting to panic, still lots to do before I leave in 19 days!

    AHHH

I've been thinking about this quite a lot over the last few days. I really want to take as little as I possibly can. My suit and a couple of outfits plus photos and stuff I can't really live without. I'd rather not take much and buy cheap stuff there than have to lug two suitcases about myself during my transfer...I can't really think of anything I couldn't live without except my clothes and photos.

    hey everyone,

when i went away for my season as a holiday rep i found myself in the same position, u want to take evrything but uve got limited space/allowance.

what i ended up doing was thinking along the lines of
    1. How many days will you not be in your work clothes
    2. How hot will it be
    3. Can i get the same thing cheaper when i arrive

When u think about the weather on ur days off shorts and t-shirts will probs be what u wear most of the time so maybe take 1 or 2 jumpers with u for the occassional time u wanna just lounge in ur bumbing around clothes.
with toiletries i took minimal 1 can of my fav deodrant, 1 shower gel cuz remember u can only put liquids in ur hold luggage now.

    i hope this kinda helps

I'm not planning on taking any toiletries apart from stuff for my first night. I know I can get shampoo, body gel etc there that I like so I'm not bogging myself down with that sorta stuff. :)

It was 2 tshirts for $20..how good is that..

We can just put him in the sea at St Petes Dylan. I'm sure he'll make it back to Britain ok. You can go pick him up when we come back. He'll be there.

Speaking of fish, I hate Disney so much for the fact that whenever you go to an aquarium, there's always some stupid kid or some stupid dad going 'look at Nemo!!' If they put me in the Living Seas I'll never cope.

Pets are not allowed in the houseing...you can get terminated, even if it's a little fish. and if you you are willing to risk it? I'd say you're nuts!

Sometimes you can get away with it, but if you get caught, you could be sent home

Awww that's so sad... and fish-ist!!!

I figure I'll just take one suitcase, and if I buy too much stuff out there, buy another one from the outlet stores or something. Or get my parents to bring one over when they visit. At least that way I'll definitely be able to take everything back- I know if I took two suitcases out, I'd fill both of them with stuff from here and then I'd be royally screwed!!

Oh just a quick word about toiletries. The American stuff is naff and Walmart has a limited seleciton, so if you have a particular product you like to use it might be worthwhile checking Walmarts website to see if they stock it. I ran out of hair gel and deodrant and couldn't find any there that worked and I liked. But I was fine with shampoo and toothpaste.

I'm not actually bothered about having a fish. You could say we're taking the Mickey! ;)

For the suitcase issue..i'd get your parents to bring you one..because suitcases are the only thing that are more expensive in america for some reason..

You can pick one up over here for about £15..but they seem to be around $80 over there, when i was looking with my friend..so i'd definetly say that if your parents are coming over..get them to bring you one..

As for the toiletries..i no what you mean..it was like about $4 something shocking like that for a can of lynx! Pretty unbelieveable really..and i always use dax and its hard enough to get in england never mind america!

I don't know how you can use dax. It stays in my hair like cement. I use Fudge so I'm gonna get 6 tubs before I go. I use about 1 a month.

With dax..i think you've gotta have light coloured hair..otherwise it just looks greasey..Suppose it is actually vegetable oil isnt it? haha..

Think ill be taking 12 tins out..one a month! haha..

I remember getting some dax shampoo once to get it out and that was just like pure vegetable oil. Think you're robably right about the light hair thing.
