Hey Guys, Im just wondering about hours. Ive heard that shifts vary from 6-10 hours, but what can you expect from different jobs. For example, Im going to be doing Quick Service Food and Beverage... Are the shifts 6 hours long or 10 hours long? Or does this just depend on what day it is etc? Any help will be appreciated! ;D
I don't know for F&B but I have an american friend on the CP working attractions and she has had some CRAZY hours, espcially the week between christmas and new years, she had tons of 12 hour shifts and one that was 16 horus!
yeah, and her job is so great she said even at the end she was having a blast getting to see bits of Wishes from where she was stationed
The longest i have ever done is 12 hours (harry potter late night release)but working for disney will be amazing and you will get to see so much more!!!
ive done 15 hours wen we were putting our boxing day sale on...was tiring but good atmosphere coz it was xmas ;D
I did 11 hours the other week... in one day that is... It was so much fun though. Obviously being situated on Main Street I get to see all the parades (Spectromagic twice most nights!) and then Wishes, plus Cinderellabration if I'm in the Cone Shop (at least 4 times a day), so it's not as though you are ever bored! Plus it's so busy usually that you don't notice the time going. I'm in QS F&B and to be honest it does depend on the day, and season, what other times you are sheduled for (like when I did my 11 hour shift, I was given a 6 hour shift the next day...and wasn't made to close) and how nice your scheduler is. I'm very lucky with mine Obviously if you want to do more hours then that is up to you, but I know that on the College Program you are not allowed to be scheduled more than 45 hours a week if you have classes. Of course you can add more hours on top of that if you want to, but that's up to you. I know some people who have done shifts so close together that they slept for a couple of hours on the break room sofa's! Your schedulers will always try to schedule your shifts at least 8 hours apart. If a shift starts less than 8 hours after your last one finished, then you get paid time and a half for that entire shift...somehow I never get that... clever schedulers eh? In all, you're gonna get your good weeks and your bad weeks. Last week I finished around 9, 10 or 11pm each night...this week I rarely finish before 12am. Your Manager cannot forcefully extend you anymore than 2 hours after the end of your original shift, any hours you take after that are your decision. Lots of people decide to take 16 hour shifts because of all that lovely money you can roll around in! I haven't been here for a peak season holiday yet, and I've already seen the parks really busy, so I dread to think what it will be like come peak season! Anyway I think I've drained my somewhat limited knowledge on shifts. Louisa xx
just spotted this! no i dont work in a movie theatre i work in Lacoste Boutique how come u thought i worked in a movie theatre!?
It's easier for CPs to pick up overtime than it is for IPs because we're restricted as to where we can work. If there is no overtime in UK merch, there is no possibility of me picking up overtime. I can't just pick up hours elsewhere. As was said, it really seems to depend on the time of year. I worked a few 11/12 hour shifts but this week I'm working 6 6 hour shifts so you never know from week to week.
Just to emphasis what Chloe said, I can't imagine ICPs *ever* being unable to get overtime somewhere in the resort. Just about every day will see shifts in 'Parade Audience Control' or 'Fantasmic! Audience Control' open on the Extra Hours Hotline. But also bare in mind that ICPs are going to be in areas with labour needs (and you'll be working in the peak season) - so you're going to be given a lot of hours anyhow. I never felt the need/desire to do any extra hours, simply because of the amount I was scheduled for. But if you want it, it'll be there for you. I imagine the visa restrictions being annoying for Disney, as well as for IP cast, in that they have the labour needs and they have cast wanting to do the work, but they can't utilise them.
Even if I dont need the money or hours, I want to get a shift doing PAC at some stage... Just for the experience KC
