The past few weeks a few people
over at Disney have wanted to come home(mentioning no names)
is it home sickness or just dont enjoy the position they are doing?
Why quit after a few weeks you have to give yourself time to settle in,time to adjust and make new friendships,
having spent all the time, effort and most of all money to get there what a waste of time coming home back to the UK
    at this bleak time.
My tip to you guys stick it out!
    its what you put in
and get out of the whole Disney experience!
    Any thoughts anyone?

when i first went to uni i got homesick, but i thought about all the time and money that had been invested in it. and i gave it effort, joined societies etc. i still love going home but i'm happy in uni.

hopefully that's prepared me a bit for disney, and i imagine once we get into the swing of things it'll be fine.

I was exactly the same on my last program..I would say to go to the cast service manager, as they sort you out and persuade you to stay and kind of take the positives and try and sort the negatives for you!

When I went to uni I was sooo homesick to begin with, for about 3 months! I would be on the phone to my mum every day, crying and begging her to let me come home/to see if my local uni would allow me to start there late... then one day, something clicked, and from then on I was having the time of my life :) I don't think I'll be nearly so bad this time, but I know I will have bad days and at first it will be weird being somewhere so different from home, but I'll always remember that good times are going to follow :)

This was one of the main reasons i wasn't sure whether to apply for the program or not.

If i thought there was a good chance of me giving up and coming home as the 1st sign of Homesickness, then i shouldn't really apply. I'm sure i'll suffer it at some point but i think working with all you great folks will help each other through it

To be honest we all seem like one big happy family!
Why come home when there will be so much fun to be had!

i think the best thing to do is stay busy if it happens. as daz said, there's plenty of fun to be had, so as long as we don't stay in and feel sorry for ourselves then it'll pass!

How about Tea as we're traditionalists?

I'll have enough bloody Tea Bags in my suitcase, so you guys will know where to come if your after some.

I want to bring a load out for those who want some so you don't have to pay the stupid US prices

Yeah we're all bound to get homesick at some point its only normal, my friend did the programme last year and she said there were a few times where she missed home but the positives of living in Florida and making loads of new friends outweighed the negatives she said.

it will take a while to get used to being in USA like anything new but am sure we will all settle in and have a mint yr over there, i cant wait to start in October ;D :D

Home sickness is a big issue and even harder it must be for the people who asr away from home for the first time. Another thing that makes it horrible is the cultural difference.. Nothing's like back home: the climat is different, the food is strange, there might be language issues.. I remember feeling horrible for the first two months when I first went to work in DLRP. But I decided not to give up, made friends, started going to parties and ended up having amazing time. So just like everyone else, my tip is not to give up and to keep busy. :)

ppl go home for many different reasons and its totally there coice. i personally really like it, i get along with every1 and enjoy my work. i do get homesick as every1 does but ppl help u through it. its hard 2 judge ppl who decide 2 go home early until u actually experience the homesickness. x

Personally I have lived away from home before and wanted to go back so badly, but got through it and am a better person for the experience. Plus it wasn't anywhere as cool as WDW! Its like my families 2nd home so while I realise there will be struggles, I think I should be fine.

Well, I think moving away from home is different for everyone. Personally I find myself loving every bit of change, but after one year without seeing anyone from home I decided to move back to my home town. The key is to join inn on as much activities as you can at all, the second you become alone and without anything to activate your brain, you start thinking about home. Its just normal tbh.

I had a bad moment once though, I was supposed to get one week to get home and see friends and family after having been away for about 7 months. But four days before I was going to get home, I got commandered to go and help in some mindless cleaning of a damn mountain area so far from people you won't even belive it. But luckily I had good friends, and since we were more that were in the same boat, we just got stupidly drunk, hated the world for one day, and got on with our lifes! Best fucking medicine ever!

well if i ever get out there, i don't know how i'm gonna react! i've never lived away from home for more than a month, so i'll probably be ok for the first month and then realise i'm not going back for another 11 and cry like crazy.
me and anthony will be the babies of the trip :D aaaanddd a couple of others who i think are applying are 18 too??

I'm not that worried about getting homesick i've spent a fair amount of time away from home at uni and travelling about but I am gona miss hearing northern irish accents, i'm worried im gona start talking like a yank! Everyone on this forum from the uk seems to be from england wales or scotland. Does anyone know any northern irish ppl participating in the programme? :)

Best thing to do is be open about it and let folk know you're homesick, there'll be someone else feeling the same. The last time I was abroad I was way too busy and having too much fun to get homesick, but I did find myself missing my family - only instead of me wanting to be home with them, I kept wishing they were there with me too see the things I was seeing. Thinking about it in that way really helped me.
