hiya, i hope someone could help me please.

my name is Lindsay, i'm 21 and i'm a single mum (my son is 2). i'm from scotland, i live in aberdeen.

my family moved to florida 4yrs ago and i chose to stay behind (yes, i was krazee not to go! regretting it now!). Anyhoos, i've been to florida heaps of times, infact i only got back lastweek after spending 2 and a half months staying with my folks out there. But now that i'm back home, i've decided i want to move to florida.

I spoke to a guy who works at the english pub in epcot, (where they sell Tennents lager - ACE!) anyway i was asking him about how he got working there and thats how i came about this website.

I thought about applying for work and cross my fingers that i get accepted and then once i'm out there working, i could see about applying for a perminant visa, with hopefully having an advantage with my family already living there, and i could also find a perminant job once my contract is up.

but, i dont know if this is the right way about doing it? is it worth a try?
also, with me being a single mother, would i still have a chance of getting accepted for this program? and are there any childcare facilities for someone in my position?
and lastly, with my family already living there, would i be able to stay with them with my son instead of on campus?

Anyone's help and advise would be most appreciated.  :)

    cheers,
    linzi xx

    brr...it's friggin' freezing here!

I'm really sorry, Linzi, but you can't have your child live with you in the housing Disney provides. I also think it's against US regulations to apply for a permanent visa while you're there with a Q1 visa. Don't quote me on that one, though.
The only thing I know for sure is that you can't have your child living with you in The Commons. Likewise, you can't have any pets, blah blah blah.
And no, you would have to live in The Commons. Even if you moved to live with your family, you would still have to pay rent there. So it just makes more sense to live where you're paying rent.

Ditto to the above. I also think Disney would frown upon you planning to apply for perminat residency while you're on their programme. To be honest, if you mentioned that, they probably wouldn't accept you.

Yeah sorry agree with all this as I know some people who tried to become permenant over there. Also the pub in EPCOT actually doesn't allow many permenant staff. There was a girl over there called Laura when I was there that was on this program and got married. She thought she would be able to get a permenant job in the UK as 2 of the long time permenant staff had just left and was told that there were no permenant jobs there. You might have better luck trying to go somewhere else just because your chances of becoming permenant are zero and you aren't meant to look for other work while working for Disney otherwise you could have your visa revoked.

Is there no way your family could sponser you for a visa? I know that you can get a green card with sponsorship and as the rest of your family are over there it might be an idea to try it that way. Have a look at the imigration laws and see if its feesable.

Anyway sorry to give you bad news. Don't give up though as there might be another way to get over there, even if its not working for Disney

hey, thanks everyone for your advise.
wow, disney doesn't sound all that great to work for after all.
i will look into other ways of getting work out there and see if i can get a sponsor.
my family could have helped me move over there and get a perminant visa up until i turned 21, but now i am classed as an independant (thats their excuse anyway, lol) but with them living there already, its an advantage.
thanks again for your help you guys. :)

I dont think its so much disney as the US Visa regulations!!

When you apply for the Q1 Visa as part of the international program you have to state whether you have any family currently living in the US. You also have to prove your intent to return to the UK once your year is up so if you say your family is already living there then your visa might be denied as they might not believe you intend to return to the UK!

    Did that make any sense!?!?

Good luck with your move over to Florida - Im so jealous of you possibly living out there permently!! If you do get out there in the near future then pop into the UK pavillion and say hi!!

    Take care,

    Michelle xx

if your family still live out there then you can probably get a visa to live with them permanently...? These visa's for the pavillions are only temp visas. If you got a permanent one then you could work in disney forever! How cool wud that b! x

    Hey Linzi,

U know, I dont see it is that difficult.
Of course it is a fact that u can't have ur kid with u
and u can't live anywhere else than the Commons.
But hey u can leave ur kid with ur family, just a suggestion.
and after every day of work, u can go to ur family's for visit.(id they live in Orlando).
And hey it is also true u can't aplly for permament Visa
while having Q1, but hey u can get a look to other jobs AFTER ur contract,
and dont sign anything while still working at Disney, because it is against company policies.

Once it is over, u can apply for the other job, and go back to ur home country
and apply for the other Visa.
I think it cant work like that

It is also true that with ur family there, there is a great possibilty of adquiring
    permament Visa.

    Hope this helps
    See ya
    Robb ;D

i also checked out the U.S Immigration website and i'm gona get my family to be my sponsors. i just thought that this program may have been a way i could have tried to get out there, but it was only an idea, that fell through, lol.
but anyway, you lot, thanks for your help and advise. and fingers crossed, i'll be out living it up in FL before i know it. hehe :)

    I must agree with Rob.

You don't have to tell Disney anything they don't ask. Obviously, your child couldn't live with you in the Commons and you are SUPPOSED to live in the Commons...or at least pay the rent. I know people who spent most of their contract living somewhere else...their roomies just said they weren't home. It would just be a matter of how long your son could stay in the country. I also know people who had family in the states already and they were accepted on the program. It was a great way for them to spend a year with family. You don't have to volunteer more information then you are asked for at the interview or on the forms.
