Hi, i am from england and im going out on the 22nd june for the summer program and id be really grateful if someone would give me some advice regarding glasses. i relaise im gonna have to get some new black ones (my current ones are multi coloured) but i was wondering how strict the rules are with style etc. also im working in costuming so i wont be on stage so will this make a difference? Would be great to hear some feedback as i dont want to spend a lot of money on some i wont be able to wear! ;D Vik
The Disney Look is just as strict backstage too! As long as you're working you need to wear your costume the right way. Sunglasses would need to be black yes. It's hard to say what they'll accept, but just keep them very plain, not have any patterns on them or any visible brand on them like some of the famous designer brands have. Here's what the Disney Look Book says: Sunglasses are a block to interpersonal communication with Guests and should be avoided if possible. As a general rule, they may be worn in jobs where glare from water, counter tops, direct sunlight, etc., would prevent you from doing your job safely or efficiently. Only sunglasses that allow your eyes to be seen are permitted. No mirror or dark opaque lenses are allowed. Sunglasses are not to be worn at night, in dark areas or indoors. They should be removed when engaging in extended conversation with a Guest. Sunglasses should not be visible when not in use. The frame and lenses of both eyeglasses and sunglasses should be a neutral color, such as black, brown, or metal rimmed (for frames),with a conservative style and no contrasting logos. Frames and lenses in shades such as blue, green, pink, yellow, etc., will not be permitted, as they're not neutral colors. Glasses and sunglasses should not detract the costume or contradict the theme of the show.
I was really worried about that too when I first started. Mine are black rimless glasses with a red Ted Baker logo on them and Disney had no problem. Just make sure you take a pair of basic glasses as spares, just in case, but you can ask when you get there and do all the administration stuff.
Yes, the best is to ask when you're there! Some managers doesn't care so much about it, but others are really strict.
has anyone ever had the situation of being a specs wearer doing character performer? is ther space for glasses under there?! I've got used to my contacts now so it's not a big problem but you know how somedays they just don't. go. in! And with florida heat plus fluffy costume... that's a quick recipe for sore eyes.
i'm not sure if you will be able to wear glasses if you are a character, like if you fell over or got jolted then your glasses might get knocked off! or steam up!
wierd i got away with sun glasses but i took them off every time a guest wanted to talk, not many care about custodials and when it comes to a character performer, will you struggle without contacts in? if so talk to your attendant or managers they might have a solution prepared
This is a very interesting topic. I also wear eye glasses. I only have one pair which is very complimenting to my skin tone hair color and everything. They are a neutral metallic brown and orange. They are the only pair of glasses I have been able to find that don't look goofy up against my VERY fair skin. Do you think they will be a problem!? If I was to go out and buy a pair of black eye glasses I would look worse off and less "neutral" looking.
i also wear glasses and contacts (but my contacts are extremly expensive customs cos my eyes are so shoddy so if i lsot one not only is it expensive to replace but in the US it would be near impossible for me to find replacements, so obviously glasses will be important) my latest pair (i have had them since i was 2 so i consider myself a glasses tragic as i have worn many styles lol) are plain black ones i assume under the disney look thing (tho they looks big cos of the lens thickness lol) but i would assume disney would bend the rules for example for the fair skinned people if a different colour looks more natural as reading the information they provide on the web a natural friendly look seems to be the aim and obviously different people need slight twinges, surely disney would be flexible to allow maximum naturalness lol
So long as they compliment you, I think Disney are generally ok with them. I'm fairly fair skinned and as mine are black, they really stand out and make me look like a secretary. But I wore them for most of my program (until they broke one day!) but as they suited me I don't think Disney minded that much.
I am doing custodial so I should be able to wear sun glasses right? I am thinking of getting some reactalight ones but I don't want to spend all that money and then not be able to wear them. Also with that sunlight I will need something as I have really sensitive eyes which are rediculously bad. My glasses are kinda like a reddy colour but my hair is red so that I am not bothered about.
Yeah, bring glasses, because when you're in custodial I would imagine that you're outside most of the day! But as kevus said, it's smart to take them off when approached by guests
i am going out there for a year and was thinking how expensive contacts are here so i thought about just getting my prescription and buying them over there, iv found a cheap opticans over there so I'm going to buy them on line and get them shipped to my address when i get there.
