Um I might just have missed it or be really paranoid but I noticed that the disney look doesn't mention specs... as in not sunspecs but just normal ones... mine are, well, probably not suitable for the Look lol but do they expect me to get a new more conservative pair?? I hear the contacts calling *shudder* does anyone else have real issues getting the buggers in?
hmmm....I never thought about it before...I wear contacts most of the time, but glasses are sometimes a neccessity, especially when I'm tired!! I'm wondering how they can deny you because they are specified as medical equipment. They probably could tell you that they have to be a basic conservative colour frame and style (i.e. black, brown, or silver?), but I'm not sure that Disney could tell you to stop wearing them, and deal with contacts.
The dress code is strict, but not too extreme as to make you wear contacts! i think your eyes would shrivel up in the heat lol. This was on the WDW College Program webiste...... "The frames and lenses of both eyeglasses and sunglasses should be a neutral color, such as black, brown, or metal rimmed (for frames), with a conservative style and no contrasting logos. Frames and lenses in shades such as blue, green, pink, yellow, etc. will not be permitted, as they are not neutral colors. Glasses and sunglasses should not detract from the costume or contradict the theme of the show. Prescription eyewear must also meet these guidelines. The use of leashes or cords with glasses or sunglasses is permitted on an exception basis only, for Cast in certain limited roles. If a specific department or area requires the use of leashes or cords for safety reasons, please contact the Cast Image and Appearance Office for approval. If colored or tinted contact lenses are worn, the resulting eye color must be natural looking and appropriate to your skin tone. Decorated lenses are not permitted, nor are any looks which would be considered distracting or not in the best interest of our Disney show. " This page makes for good reading, theres a section on personal hygiene!!! http://www.wdwcollegeprogram.com/sap/its/mimes/zh_wdwcp/disneylook/cast_all.html
OK when I worked for Disney I was scared about this too! On my first day I went to the college program people and asked if my glasses were alright. Mine are frameless with black frames (nope, doesn't make sense to me either) with a red logo on the side. Disney said they were fine. So what I'm trying to say is they can't stand out. They must be a neutral colour i.e. black, silver, gold and NOT the colours of the rainbow. I took another pair which were less noticable incase they said I couldn't wear my black ones, but in truth it's good to take another pair because my first pair broke towards the end of my program!
Thanks for advice all, that link is tres handy I guess I will have to ditch my thick plastic framed purple and pinks then (not quite as hideous as I make them out to be lol theyre great *sigh* lucky my DARLING daddy is my optician - and no he wasn't too happy about the idea of contacts day in day out in florida summer
you are quite lucky then....discounts and/or free I'm sure! I can totally see the fun-ness of your purple/pink frames...I'm thinking I'll probably have to replace my brown/turquoise ones then too!!
Hmm this is one area I never considered which is strange cause I put my glasses on first thing every morning even before I open my eyes, I literally would be lost without them but thankfully I have three frames, my fav dark green plastic pair, brown metal pair and my older and every so slighty not so strong half rim black metal pair. I'm sure Disney would be ok with at least one of these. O-O Spectacle wearers of Disney Unite!!!! O-O
