Hello All, I'm new around here and have a f2f interview in London on 22nd February. I had a couple of questions for existing people who've done (or are doing) the CRP. Flights: I understand there's a deal through STA Travel / Yummy to fly with Virgin to Orlando. Do you have to buy a return flight or is it just a single ticket? Does anyone know the current cost (roughly)? Also, I've heard that once you've completed the CRP, Disney will either pay for, or pay towards your flight home. Is this correct? Wages: Cheeky question, but roughly how much do CRP participants earn per hour? I understand it'll be different between F&B or Merch and that you can possibly choose either tipped or untipped wages. Taxes: You pay American tax on your earnings - can this be claimed back at the end of the programme? Thanks in advance, DK.
Hey there! Okay Im not sure all the answers to these qustions but they will defs give you all the info at the F2F. Flight: You can book with who ever you want you just let yummy jobs know and the people at Disney so they know what time your arriving. You pay for your flight there (one way) and then after you finish the program Disney reimburses you. They do pay for your flight home. Wages: I know it is $7 something for most jobs. They defs give you a break down on all of that at the F2F. F&B (if working in the resaurant) is tipped so the wage is even lower. Taxes: Seriously I have no idea, though I do imagine you are taxed and then you claim it on the way home. There is info about that on this website, somewhere under alumni central (on the left side tool bar) and then "Tax Guide". This would be a good question to ask at the F2F. Good Luck! ;D
Thanks very much Jenn. Do you mean they reimburse you for the flight out there AND pay for your flight home, or just one of them?
Nice! I'd heard that they paid for your flight home after you'd completed 12 months, but didn't realise you had the outbound flight paid for too.
I'm pretty sure they said they would reimburse you with the amount of an average flight. I think thats what they said, not 100% I would ask Kirsten from Yummy Jobs about that.
Florida flights aren't always cheap either, kinda luck of the draw! Besides, you see so many cool things driving! Like Dollywood! And there must be the world's largest ball of yarn somewhere! Oh, and an endless line of Cracker Barrel's right off the interstate - I remember those well from old fam trips driving down to Flo
I find that if you fly out of Buffalo (if you live in Ontario its not too far to drive) it is about 75% cheaper then flying out of London, Toronto, or Hamilton. They have flights starting at $80 one way nonstop. 8)
I tend to fly out of Buffalo anytime I go to Florida now, just depends on the time of the year. So long as it's not March break, or isn't a last minute booking - pretty decent prices! WAY better than flying out of Toronto. Pearson likes to tax people to death for whatever reason. You luck out sometimes with airlines like WestJet though! Evens the playing field out a bit because then you don't have to pay for parking in Buffalo while away, spend as much on gas, etc.
Hi I am out here working in the UK Pavilion doing Merch You can either book your own flight or Disney will do it for you During your first week induction training Disney will ask for a copy of your flight costs. They then convert the cost you paid into dollars and that is what they give you back at the end of the program in your wages to pay for your flight home. Wages the current pay is $7.45. If and i mean if you are working in F&B and are lucky enough to get to a tipped position, this is usually after 6 months your pay drops to half this amount an hour. If you start around Feb you will be able to claim moat of your tax back at the end of Dec 2010 and the rest when you get back. A lot of people have just got big tax rebates in Jan. They don't take rent from you until the second week so bring some money as the first pay is only about $58 They pay you only for traditions on the Saturday in week one and the following week they take two weeks rent it is around $93 a week. I was left with $57 the second week. The first couple of weeks your shopping bills will be higher as you will have to buy cleaning products and condiments, sauces etc. So come prepared. Pay day is on a Thursday each week into the bank. Disney offer the bank they work with, you get given a debit card you can use most places Hope this helps Jade
Hi Jade, Thanks for all the info - super helpful for us in the UK (thread seemed to get a bit hijackedby all our Canadian cousins, hehe). So, in essence you still have to pay for one of your flights as they'll reimburse you for the outbound leg but then you either use that or your own money to buy a flight home. I've found in situations like that, it usually can work out cheaper to buy a return flight, even if you've got no intention of using the 2nd sector of the ticket. For those in the UK who've not been keeping up to date with Gordon Brown's latest tax sting, the rate of Air Passenger Duty (APD) has gone up quite a bit. It can work out cheaper (if you book far enough in advance) to fly out of Paris CDG or Amsterdam. Basically, get a Sleazyjet flight to either with your flight to Orlando starting there and you could save a small fortune. Sites like Opodo or Expedia will let you book flights not originating in the UK. DK.
It can seem to work out cheaper, but remember with the budget airlines, you only get piddly baggage allowance. I'm changing at Dublin and looked at getting a Ryanair flight there from EMA which is nearest to me, but I'd only get 15kg and to check in 2 bags it worked out at about an extra £50! I'm going from Birmingham now as I got a flight with Aerlingus where you get a 23kg bag included...and overall the flight was a cheaper price too, which was odd. I'm jealous of these Canadians and their $80 flights lol! Also, to Jade...is the Disney bank any good? I thought I read somewhere that's the only one you can get your wages into by direct debit, which would be handy, but then someone on here said they only have the one branch over in Magic Kingdom and only a few ATMs, so you can't really use your card in that many places? Also, seens you're over there already, is it worth getting a credit card? I'd rather not if I can avoid it, but I get the feeling Americans are rather into them lol.
Good point about the luggage allowance on cheap flights. I guess the booking (credit card) fee might also negate that. Your other question about a credit card - I doubt you'd get accepted for a US based card as you won't earn enough or have built up a suitable credit file. Look at either Abbey Zero or Post Office credit cards here as neither charge you a fee for using them abroad.
Oops, Abbey is now Santander. Here's the linky anyway; http://www.santander.co.uk/csgs/Satellite?appID=abbey.internet.Abbeycom&c=Page&canal=CABBEYCOM&cid=1210610544537&empr=Abbeycom&leng=en_GB&pagename=Abbeycom%2FPage%2FWC_ACOM_TemplateB2
Hi the bank account is fine you use your card like any debit card if you want cash you can ask for cash back at the till use it anywhere. you can go on line to check your balance, they use paycheckplus.com you can google it. flights i used STA very good prices for virgin keep looking as they can change hourly I paid £243 for flight. Virgin wanted £615. Jade
£243 is a bargain. It seems a lot cheaper to buy a return ticket than it does to buy a one-way. Strange.
