Hi guys, im from the UK and i have a start date for December 7th. so i guess i need to start thinking about booking a flight. Problem is there's a chance i wont get a visa and im thinking if i leave booking a flight til after my visa appointment it will end up being far more expensive than if i booked it around now right? so can anyone give me some advice, like do you know what the cancellation fees are with STA travel? Yummy mentioned that i could let disney sort my flights and then it wouldn't cost me anything if i don't get a visa, but im no entirely sure what my options are.

thanks in advance and looking forward to seeing many of u out there!

the chances of you being denied a visa are very, very, very slim..... i really wouldnt worry about it (unless theres something your not telling us?!)

i have never heard of anyone being denied a visa for this program, ever.

    book your flight! ;D

If you book with STA Travel and then are unable to go due to visa reasons, you will lose £150 but get the rest back. That's what I was told when I booked mine. Hope that Helps :)

I felt the same way in regards to my visa.

My only tip would be to save as much as you can and book the flight as soon as you get the Visa (thats what i did) it may be cheaper, it may be more expensive, but would you rather not lost the dosh if its denied!

Don't forget, when you finish the program, they'll debit the price of the flight back to you which is huge bonus.

My flight was around 900 quid and during the time i got it back, the currency exchange was AMAZING and i got practically double what i originally anticipated.

I would'nt chance it if you're adamate you may be denied.

can i ask why you think you wont get a visa?

If your criminal background check has come back clear you should be fine - unless youve been kicked out of the USA before for some reason or have outstanding convictions over there ....? You could just phone up the consulate and ask for advice?

thanks for the responses guys i appreciate it. so i guess its a choice between risking losing 150 quid or saving up a fair amount and booking once i've got the visa

is there not a maximum disney will give u back for your flight or anything? don't no much about the whole thing with the flight money getting given back to be honest. do you have to book your flights through disney in order to get that?

lol i dont really want to share why, just cuz i dont know who reads these things haha

if you complete your 12months you get the cost of your flight back, regardless of whether you booked your own flight or let disney book it. You just show them your receipt or tickets during your first few days and they calculate how much that it would be in dollars and then that same amount gets added onto your final pay check.

fair enough if you dont want to say why but i really wouldnt be too worried unless youve been in trouble with the police in the USA or had issues with visa's in the states before. like i said, if you really have concerns youd be best sorting it out now before you do anything else - rather than stressing out about it from now right up until your at the immigration desk at orlando airport!

hey sorry to burst in, but even if you let Disney book your flight out they still give you it back? If you let them book your flight out do you not have to pay them back?

    righttttt

if you let disney book your flight over there they basically book and pay for it and the after you arrive you have to pay them back each week out of your pay..... if you then complete the year, you get back what youve been paying to disney (usually this will then be the full cost of the flight but in some cases the flights that disney booked were VERY expensive and therefore some people didnt end up paying 100% back to disney over the course of the year)

if you book your own flight you show them your receipt and then you get that same amount back in your final paycheck before you leave, and that money is yours to do with what ever you want, you will usually have to book your flight home long before your final pay comes in.

disney flights tend to be expensive as they just put you on whatever flight they can find - and usually you have at least 1 or 2 changeovers on the way (i know one guy had to change in pheonix and then somewhere random like miami.......) and they just get you the top price ticket so you end up having to pay a lot back out of your weekly pay.

So the rule of thumb really would be to book your flight yourself? How much generally are flights back to the UK?

id always suggest to book your own flight, because then you can pick one that suits you best in terms of price and where you fly out from etc and you can sort it yourself now rather than waiting until the week before for disney to sort it and let you know the details! and also that way you know you dont have to pay it back every week once you get over there

flights can be pretty cheap, i got mine with aer lingus for about $300 or something (with a changeover in Dublin) it was obviously a budget flight but it did the job!!!
